Louisiana Marshals Indicted For Shooting 6-Year-Old
Derrick Stafford And Norris Greenhouse, Jr.
LOUISIANA - Two Louisiana marshals, Derrick Stafford, 32, and Norris Greenhouse, Jr., 23, were indicted on charges of second- degree murder and second-de- gree attempted murder for the Nov. 3 shooting that left 6- year-old Jeremy Mardis dead and seriously injured the child's father, Christopher Few, after a brief pursuit.
Jeremy was buckled into the front passenger seat of his father's car when he was killed. The marshals were chasing Few after the father had an ar- gument with his girlfriend in front of a local bar, claiming that they had witnessed "do- mestic abuse." The brief chase ended in gunfire, with the marshals firing at least 18 rounds. According to the re- port, investigators found no outstanding warrants against Few, and no weapons were found in his vehicle.

Some of our
greatest leaders in
the civil rights move-

beef. Everyone
knows that Martin
and Malcolm
weren’t bosom bud-
dies. You definitely
would not find Ju-

John Lewis having
drinks together. But
the one thing that
didn’t happen back
then was having
their beefs play out
over social media, basically because ... of course not ... it didn’t even exist ... thank- fully?
Nowadays, protests, rallies and beefs play out on social media. And the beefs are defi- nitely a low point of it all. But the truth of the matter is, not everyone is going to always get along. Between egos and
miscommunication, when you sit back and look at it all, it all seems a bit immature and childish, but of course, Black Twitter has a way of making it look quite hilarious.
On Sunday and Monday, the hashtag #CivilRightsTwit- ter put a spin on Twitter beef by imagining what exactly Martin would say to Mal- colm.

Anti-Muslim Rhetoric Leads To Safety Issues At U. S. Mosques
CALIFORNIA - From Los Angeles to Washington, DC, mosques around the U. S. are stepping up security in the face of growing fears about reprisals on American Muslims.
The call by Rep. presidential contender Donald Trump to ban Muslims from entering the U. S. amplifies concern about an anti-Islamic backlash at mosques and community centers.
The FBI is investigating an incident in Philadelphia which someone drove past a mosque and threw a severed pig's head at it - a possible hate crime. The Council on American-Islamic Re- lations was forced to evacuate its office on Capitol Hill after re- ceiving a letter containing white powder. The note said, "Die a painful death, Muslims," CAIR Atty. Maha Sayed said.
Islamphobia: African Muslim Student Asked By Teacher If She Had A Bomb
ARKANSAS ---Sam's Club CEO Rosalind Brewer is in hot water with white men after a CNN interview in which, she championed diversity and talked about an experience in meeting with a supplier who had no women or people of color representation.
"It has to start with top leadership," Brewer said about the way she promotes diversity within her company. "My executive team is very di- verse and I make that a prior- ity. I demand it within my team."
Brewer then added: "Just today we met with a supplier and the entire other side of the table was all Caucasian males. That was interesting. I decided not to talk about it directly with [the supplier's] folks in

Sam’s Club CEO Sets A Standard For Diversity: Tweet Birds Call Her ‘Racist’
ATLANTA, GA --- The par- ent of an eighth-grade Muslim student at Shiloh Middle School in Gwinnett County is angry after an incident in which a teacher asked his daughter if she was carrying a bomb in her backpack.
Abdirizak Aden, who was born in Somalia, said that on Monday, his 13-year-old daughter, who wears the hijab, was in class when a teacher stopped her and asked what she had in her bookbag.
She said the teacher called her out into the hallway. The teacher said she knew her joke went too far, especially be- cause of “the things happening in the world right now,” said the daughter.
“It was very disrespectful,” the teen said. ” I came there to learn... At the end of the day I willstillgetmyAorBand leave her class.”
“My daughter wanted to know why she was asking her that,” he said. He said his daughter was upset when she texted him to tell him about the incident. He went to the school to see what happened and was told that it was a mis- take.
“I was upset,” said Aden, who lives in Snellville and works as a truck driver and grocery store owner. “I was going to take my daughter out (of that school). “

The com-
ment caused uproar on Twit- ter with several people claiming that Brewer's com- ments were "racist" to white men. Yahoo Finance points out that Brewer's executive team is made up of eight peo- ple, four of which are white men. But that didn't stop the Twitter mob, which pro- claimed they'd spent their last dollar at the big box wholesale store.

Muslims, we live in America,” he said. “I didn’t teach my children to hate people or to think they are better than other people. I don’t want no- body to treat them like that.”
She said it was a regular teacher, not a substitute, who made the remark. The teacher was trying to get the students to put away their backpacks quickly and made the remark to the student that was basi- cally, what do you have in there, a bomb?
The school’s principal, Eli Welch III, conducted an in- vestigation and spoke with the teacher and the parent.
Reports indicate that the principal has followed up with the family and apologized. School officials are also con- tinuing to talk to and work with that teacher.
Prosecutors accused the for- mer Oklahoma City officer of selecting his victims, all of them Black women, based on their backgrounds and crimi- nal history, believing that their drug or prostitution records would undermine any allega- tions against him.
On last Thursday, Holtz- claw's 29th birthday, he was found guilty, and by Friday he was under suicide watch in the Oklahoma County jail, where he awaits formal sentencing. According to Sheriff John Whetsel, a deputy or deten- tion officer is sitting outside his cell to monitor him.
Holtzclaw is facing 263 years in prison for his crimes.
Holtzclaw's former em- ployer, the Oklahoma City Po- lice Department, said that it was "satisfied" with the jury's decision, adding that "justice was served."
Oklahoma City NAACP President Garland Pruitt, however, is waiting the actual sentencing in January before declaring that justice has been served, noting that "the system has a reputation of not being fair.”

Supreme Court Justice An- tonin Scalia made news after stating that Black college stu- dents don’t do well at more ad- vanced colleges and should attend slower-track schools. The comment was made during a hearing in the affirmative action case Abigail Fisher v. Univer- sity of Texas.
Fisher was a prospective stu- dent of the University of Texas, but says she was denied admis- sion because she’s white. Fisher stated that the university admit- ted other students with less- than-stellar grades only because of their race.
During the hearing, Scalia also stated that nowadays, “most” Black scientists “don’t come from schools like the Uni- versity of Texas,” but instead choose to attend “lesser schools where they do not feel that ...

well as their degrees.
