MR. CHARLES ‘CHUCK’ BURNETT
Mr. Charles Edward Bur- nett of Tampa, went home to be with the Lord on Decem- ber 13, 2015.
Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, Decem- ber19,2015,at11a.m.at First Baptist Church of Col- lege Hill, 3838 N. 29th Street, Tampa, 33605, Reverend Doctor Evan Burrows, pas- tor, with Pastor Otis Copper, III, officiating. Interment will follow in Orange Hill Cemetery.
Charles Burnett, who was known as “Chuck,” was born October 22, 1969 in Tampa, to Clifton and Ernestine Bur- nett.
His early childhood was spent in Adamsville, FL. The family relocated to Tampa in 1976.
He attended Madison Jun- ior High and played sports with recognition to Pop Warner baseball and foot- ball; also, the Boys and Girls Club under Bobby Wilds.
He graduated from Bran- don High Class of 1989; where he was a star football player.
He served in the U. S. Navy, where he did a tour in Desert Storm. He worked at TSA, and his place of em- ployment was Zephyrhills Correctional facility for over 10 years.

DEACON ROOSEVELT ‘VELT’ STEPHENS, SR.
Funeral service for Deacon Roosevelt “Velt” Stephens, Sr., will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2015, at 11 a. m. at First Baptist Church of Lin- coln Gardens, 4025 W. Pal- metto St., Tampa, 33607, Rev. Anthony W. Greene, pastor, with Rev. Felix Mitchell, offi- ciating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.
Roosevelt Stephens, Sr., “Master Architectural Draftsman,” departed this life on Monday, December 14th at 1:27 at his residence in Tampa, surrounded by fam- ily and friends at his bedside.
He was born to the late Virgil, Sr. and Annie Mae Stephens. He was the 11th child born of 12 siblings from Alachua, FL, where he grad- uated from A. L. Mebane High School.
He enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1970, and was hon- orably discharged with a Pur- ple Heart. He moved to Tampa after serving his coun- try and he furthered his edu- cation. He was an Ordained and faithful Deacon at 40th Street Church in Tampa.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; 4 sisters, Linda Stephens Hand, Roberta Stephens Williams, Odessa Stephens Stewart and infant, Merdis Stephens; and 2 brothers, Eugene Wesley Stephens and Virgil, Stephens, Jr.
He leaves to cherish mem- ories of him with: his loving wife of 43 years, Nonnie Mae Smith Stephens; sons, Robert (Lisa) Thornton of Lake Charles, LA, Melvin Brown, Lorenzo (Stephanie) Brown, and Roosevelt Stephens, II; daughter, Ash- ley Armstrong; 15 grandchil- dren and 19 great grandchildren; brother, Claude Alfred Stephens; 4 sisters, Delores Stephens Douglas, Gainesville, FL, Mayola Stephens (James) Ar- rington, Culver City, CA, Betty Stephens, Gainesville, FL, and Clementine Stephens (Albert) King, Nashville, TN; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; a faithful goddaugh- ter, Gwendolyn Lee; broth- ers-in-law, Adolph Stewart, Pacoima, CA, Samuel Fulton, Johnny Green, Herman Ful- ton and Charles Fulton; and a host of sorrowing relatives and friends.
There will be a viewing on Friday, December 18, 2015, from 5-8 p. m. at Wilson th Fu- neral Home, 3000 N. 29 St., Tampa, with the family re- ceiving friends in the chapel 7-8 p. m. Friends are asked to assemble at the church on Saturday at approximately 10:45 a. m. for the service.

On December 14th at 3:45 p. m., Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies responded after a witness reported seeing a Black male walking on Eastfield Road in Thonotosassa with a black hand- gun in his pocket.
As a deputy arrived, he re- ported seeing the grip of a gun projecting from the man’s pocket.
The man, identified as Alfred Phelps, III, 27, reportedly fled from the scene on foot. The deputy reportedly gave verbal commands for Phelps to stop running. He also ordered Phelps to drop the weapon five times during the foot pursuit.
The deputy said Phelps con- tinued running and was seen pulling the gun out of his pocket as he tried to enter a residence on Eastfield Road. He was not able to open the door and the deputy again reportedly ordered Phelps to drop the weapon. He complied

and dropped the gun on the ground next to him.
A highpoint .40 caliber hand- gun was recovered, and Phelps was arrested. A fully loaded mag- azine with 18 rounds was found on the ground in the path from the area where Phelps was first seen.
Phelps has been charged with carrying a concealed firearm, and resisting an officer without vio- lence.

CrimeMan Charged With Carrying Concealed Firearm
Driver Arrested After Crashing Vehicle Into House
St. Petersburg Police report a vehicle fleeing from officers crashed into a house early Wednesday.
The driver, identified as 20- year-old Sha’Kur D’Shay Weaver, was arrested and trans- ported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Officers were in the area due to a reported brawl in the 2300 block of 13th Avenue, South about 1 a. m. Officers had been in the area investigating the shooting of Gabriel Wallace, 17.
While in the area, officers re- ported hearing several gunshots coming from the area where Wal- lace was shot. They also saw sev- eral vehicles speeding away from the area.
Officers went after the vehicle and a pursuit was authorized on one of them. As the pursuit trav- eled south on 22nd Street and across 18th Avenue, South,

Weaver lost control of the vehi- cle, crashed into several cars and a home in the 1900 block of 22nd Street, South.
Police said Weaver was unco- operative and no firearm was found. He is facing charges of ag- gravated fleeing and eluding, driv- ing with a suspended license, and felony marijuana possession. He is in jail with his bail set at $13,000.
Mother Of Girl Found In Freezer Charged With Murder

The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office reports that the mother of the 11-year-old girl found dead in a freezer in Bradenton has been charged in her death.
Officials said Keishanna Thomas has been charged with murder in the death of her daughter, 11-year-old Janiya Thomas.
Janiya’s body was found in a freezer in October. Ms. Thomas, 31, has been in jail on charges of child abuse and abuse of a body since that time.

Janiya was last seen June 9, 2014, and was discovered missing in September. Her family mem- bers reported her disappearance in October.
On October 18th, Janiya’s body was found inside a pad- locked freezer in her grand- mother’s garage. Authorities said Keishanna and a friend moved the freezer four days earlier.
Keishanna Thomas has been charged with first-degree murder, abuse of a dead body and aggravated child abuse.
