President Will Meet With Victims’ Families In San Bernadino
White House Press Secre- tary Josh Earnest said Wednesday the visit will mir- ror a trip the president took to Oregon earlier this year in the wake of a mass shooting at a community college.
While in San Bernardino, the President will meet pri- vately with families of victims of the mass shooting, which federal authorities are investi- gating as an ISIS-inspired ter- rorist attack.
Fourteen people were killed and 22 were injured in the shooting, carried out by Syed RizwanFarook and Tashfeen Malik, a couple said to have been radicalized not long ago.
President Welcomes 30 New U. S. Citizens At Ceremony
President Barack Obama
welcomed more than 30 new U. S. citizens at a naturalization ceremony on Tuesday, using the event to counter recent anti-Muslim and anti-refugee comments from Republican presidential candidates includ- ing Donald Trump.
“Scripture tells us, 'For we are strangers before you, and sojourners, as were all our fa- thers,'” the President said in his address to the 31 immigrants representing 25 different coun- tries who were granted citizen- ship in a ceremony at the National Archives. “In the Mexican immigrant today, we see the Catholic immigrant of a century ago; in the Syrian seek- ing refuge today, we should see the Jewish refugee of World War II.”
It was the second time in a week that President Obama
out against hatred and bigotry,
shot back at the GOP field — particularly Trump — without naming names or directly ref- erencing contemporary poli- tics.
The President condemned the us-versus-them mentality some Americans have toward immigrants — “not remember- ing we used to be them,” he said. “On days like today, we need to resolve never to repeat mistakes like that again. We must resolve to always speak

Jury Continues Deliberation In Baltimore After ‘Deadlock’
Freddie Gray died of a spinal injury while in police custody. William Porter is one of 6 officers on trial.
A Baltimore jury is deliberat- ing again, a day after announc- ing a deadlock in case of the first police officer to stand trial over the death of Freddie Gray.
Wednesday marks the third day of deliberations in the case of William Porter. He’s one of six officers charged in Gray’s death.
On Tuesday afternoon, jurors sent the judge a note saying they were deadlocked. He told them to keep working.
Porter is charged with manslaughter, assault, reck- less endangerment and mis- conduct in office.
Prosecutors say Porter is partly responsible for failing to buckle Gray into a seatbelt and for not calling an ambu- lance when Gray indicated he was in distress. Porter told jurors that he didn’t think Gray was injured and that it was the van driver’s responsi- bility to fasten Gray’s seat belt.
The city is bracing for unrest if the verdict comes back ‘not guilty’.
