Majority Of House Members Now Back Some Type Of Impeachment Action Against Trump
Two hundred and nine- teen House Democrats and one independent — a major- ity of the chamber's 435 members — now favor some kind of impeachment action against President Donald Trump, according to an NBC News tally.
House Democrats reached the milestone a day after Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced a formal impeachment inquiry into the president following claims that he might have withheld aid to Ukraine to pressure officials there to in- vestigate former Vice Pres- ident Joe Biden and his son.

Whistleblower Complaint Says White House Officials Acted To 'Lock Down' Record Of Trump-Ukraine Call
A whistleblower's com- plaint about President Donald Trump, made pub- lic on Thursday, says White House officials were so con- cerned about what the presi- dent said in a July call with Ukraine's new leader that they intervened to "lock down" the transcript of the conversation.
The whistleblower, whose name and gender has not been released, lodged the for- mal complaint out of a belief that Trump was "using the power of his office to solicit interference from a foreign country" in the 2020 election.
In the call, Trump dis- cussed having Ukrainian President Volodymyr Ze- lenskiy help investigate the Biden family's business deal- ings. The matter is now the subject of a formal impeach-
ment inquiry that was launched by the House this week.
"The interference in- cludes, among other things, pressuring a foreign country to investigate one of the pres- ident's main domestic politi- cal rivals," the whistleblower
wrote. "The president's per- sonal lawyer, Mr. Rudolph Giuliani, is a central figure in this effort. Attorney Gen- eral (William) Barr ap- pears to be involved as well."
The complaint, which was made public with minimal redactions, makes clear there are witnesses who can back up the account, and it indi- cates concern over the inter- nal handling of the White House record of the phone
callT. he whistleblower says White House officials told them the conversation on July 25 between Trump and Ze- lenskiy was removed from the computer system that is typically used for such records of calls with foreign leaders.
