Week 12 in the NFC South saw the Tampa Bay Bucca- neers (4-7) travel to take on the Atlanta Falcons to win 35- 22.
Over the last two weeks, the Falcons did not look like a team that reflected their record, as they had been clicking on both sides of the ball.
One of the priorities for the Bucs was to protect quar- terback Jameis Winston, and the offensive line suc- ceeded. Allowing no sacks on
the day gave Winston enough time to round out 313 yards through the air for three touchdowns, including one to defensive lineman Vita Vea, who became the
heaviest player in NFL his- tory to catch a touchdown pass.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Bucs sacked Fal- cons quarterback Matt Ryan six times. While Win- ston had two interceptions of his own, the Bucs defense had an interception and forced two fumbles, including one for a touchdown. The Bucca- neers will be on the road next week against the Jacksonville Jaguars, in hopes of starting a win streak.

On Chris Godwin, Mike Evans
Surpassing 1,000 Yards
Don’t look now, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have the most productive wide re- ceiver duo in the NFL. On Sunday, in a win over the At- lanta Falcons, their dynamic duo of Mike Evans and Chris Godwin each sur- passed 1,000 yards in the NFL season — an impressive feat considering the Buccaneers have played 11 games.
After the win, Jameis Winston, the go-big-or-go- home quarterback that helped them achieve their statistics, shared his thoughts on the two hitting 1,000 yards.
“It’s big,” said Winston, via Greg Auman of The Ath- letic. “I’m blessed to have those two targets, and other guys as well. But, it was kind of cool to see both of them go for a thousand on the same day.”
In the game, Evans tallied four receptions for 50 yards. In hitting 1,000 yards, he tied Hall of Famer Randy Moss for the only receivers to ac- complish the mark in each of their first six seasons. He has 62 receptions for 1,043 yards and seven touchdowns on the season.
While Evans is used to hitting a thousand yards, Godwin accomplished doing so for the first time in his three-year career on Sunday. He had a career day while get- ting to 1,000, as he caught seven balls for 184 yards and two touchdowns, including a 71-yard long. Statistically, he has surpassed Evans, as he has 70 receptions for 1,071 yards and nine touchdowns in 2019.
MIKE EVANS, JAMEIS WINSTON AND CHRIS GODWIN
A huge upset this weekend has changed everything in HBCU football for the mo- ment.
Bethune-Cookman’s win over Florida A&M, who had been No. 1 in both the BOX- TOROW Coaches and Media Polls the previous five weeks, caused massive shakeups in both polls.
The Alcorn State Braves, who over the course of the year have received first place votes in both polls, is now No. 1 with the coaches, while two-time defending HBCU national champion North Carolina A&T Aggies are No. 1 with the media.
The Braves easily handled rival Jackson State Saturday, having already wrapped up the SWAC East- ern Division for the sixth straight year. The Aggies also easily handled its rival, North Carolina Central,
and won its third straight MEAC champi- onship and fifth in the last six years.
The Aggies share the crown with South Carolina State, who won at Norfolk State in overtime on Satur- day. Both teams went 6-2 in the MEAC and the Aggies will go to the Celebra- tion Bowl on December 21 by virtue of defeating the Bulldogs on No- vember 2.
Who the Aggies will face in the Celebration Bowl re- mains to be seen. The Bayou Classic matchup this Saturday between the Grambling Tigers and Southern Jaguars will de- termine the SWAC West champion and that winner will meet the Braves in the SWAC championship game on December 7.
The Braves will host the SWAC championship game.
