Road Closures
With so much road and railroad crossing repairs being done all over the city, motorists need to be noti- fied what roadways will be affected, and what are their alternate routes.
Below are various proj- ects going on in the city and county along with their projected completion dates, and suggested de- tour routes.
CSX is repairing their railroad crossing on Falkenburg Road near Columbus Drive. For an alternate route, go from North Falken- burg to East Broadway to Lakewood Drive to Brandon Boulevard/S.R. 60 to Falkenburg Road or from North Falken- burg Road to MLK, Jr. Boulevard to U. S. 301 to East Columbus Drive to North Falken- burg Road.
On Maydell Drive, a bridge is being re- paired and construc- tion will last until December 20, 2016. For an alternate route, go from Maydell Drive to Palm River Road to South 50th Street/U.S. 41 to Adamo Drive/S.R. 60, to Maydell Drive, or from Maydell Drive to Adamo Drive/S.R. 60 to South 78th Street to Palm River Road to Maydell Drive.
There is also a traffic ad- visory from the City of Tampa as Green Street is being transitioned to two- way traffic between North Boulevard and Laurel Street Bridge starting Monday, February 1st. As part of the transition, a new traffic signal will be in- stalled at North Boulevard and Green Street.
Tampa Area Race Tracks Cited By State
For Illegal Card Games
Complaints have been issued by State Regulators against seven race tracks, including Tampa Bay Downs and Derby Lane Greyhound Track in St. Petersburg, for operating ille- gal poker games.
According to Chris Kise, a lobbyist for Tampa Bay Downs, they are operating under the guidelines of the license they were given, and he feels the timing of the complaint seemed rather curious.
The Department of Busi- ness and Professional Regula- tion filed administrative complaints against the two Tampa Bay area pari-mutel casinos, and others across the state.
Ken Lawson, Secretary of the Department of Business and Professional Regulation said, they will continue to ad- minister the law and maintain their opposition to unautho- rized activity conducted at any facility licensed by the state.
The complaints were issued after questions were raised during a Senate committee hearing over whether the Semi-
nole compact would allow pari- mutuels to continue operating card rooms or declare them il- legal.
At issue is banked card games in which the house would be a participant as opposed to games where only outside play- ers are involved in wagering.
Florida laws say no person li- censed to operate a card room may conduct any banking game or any game not specifically au- thorized by the statute.
Derby Lane was cited with 10 violations, five for operating a banking game not authorized by the state, and five for allow- ing an unlicensed person to work in a card room. Tampa Bay Downs was cited with two complaints. Both have 21 days to request an administrative hearing.
Kise said they don’t think they’ve done anything to vio- late the law and they will evalu- ate this in the context of everything going on.
It’s unclear whether the tracks have changed their card games in response to the com- plaints.
