Man Charged With Sexual Battery Of 85-Year-Old
Cab Driver Charged In Death Of Pedestrian
   Leaves Man In
 Critical Condition
A 26-year-old man was arrested last week and charged in connection with a fatal accident. The accident occurred in the 3600 block of 34th Street, North.
According to the St. Pe- tersburg Police Department, Plinnie McNelly, 58, was trying to cross 34th Street North during the early morn- ing hours of June 29th. As he attempted to cross the street, he fell and was sitting up in the roadway when he was hit by a Ford Crown Victoria.
As a result of the investi- gation, witness accounts, and surveillance video, police were able to identify and lo- cate the vehicle. The vehicle belonged to United Cab and was reportedly driven by Ji- marez Donshay Reed at the time of the accident, po-
 Tampa police are investi- gating a shooting that has left a man in critical condition. The shooting took place in the 2700 block of E. 18th Avenue, late Sunday.
According to police, when officers arrived at the scene, they discovered that 39-year- old Derrick Leonard Russ, of Tampa, had been shot in the head. Russ was transported to a local hospital in critical con- dition.
During their investigation, police learned that two vehicles had been struck by gunfire during the incident that took place shortly before 11:30 p.m.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 35-year-old man and charged him with sexual battery. He is accused of assaulting an 85- year-old man who lives in Sun City Center.
According to police, the in- cident took place between June 6th and June 9th, while Roberto Kirkland worked as a Certi- fied Nursing Assistant at the Brookdale Senior Living facil-
ity. The victim told officials that the act was committed against his will and without his con- sent. Kirkland allegedly ad- mitted to the offense and was taken into custody. He was charged with one count of sex- ual battery.
Driver Involved In Accident With Deputy Faces DUI Charge

Last Thursday, a 25-year-old man was involved in a traffic ac- cident with a Hillsborough County deputy. The accident oc- curred at Dale Mabry Highway and W. Mango Avenue.
According to police, Tyler Conrad was driving a 2005 Nissan Altima when he crashed into a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office cruiser, driven by Deputy Benjamin Burgher. Deputy Burgher had just left a call when the accident took place.
Police said Conrad exhib- ited signs of being impaired and had a strong odor of alcohol on him. He refused to complete a Field Sobriety Exercise and was transported to Central Breath Testing. As a result of the test, Conrad was charged with DUI.
Neither driver was injured. However, the cruiser received about $8,000 in damages.

The Pinellas County Sher- iff’s Office arrested two men in connection with the injury of another man. The incident took place on June 22nd.
According to police, 60- year-old William Clark was standing outside his apart- ment in the 27000 block of Grove Park Avenue, when he observed two unidentified men cut through the apart- ment complex parking lot.
Clark reportedly yelled at the men and told them to stay off the property.
The men reportedly re- turned carrying rocks and a shovel. Detectives said the men threatened Clark and chased him. He was able to reach the safety of his apart- ment.
As the men were walking away from Clark’s apartment, Peter J. Hoffstetter, 64, stepped out of his apartment and confronted the same two men about trespassing.
Police said a verbal argu- ment took place and one of the

men threw a rock that struck Hoffstetter in the head. He fell to the ground and the men ran away.
Hoffstetter told police that he fell while retreating back to his apartment. He never told police he had been struck with a rock.
Police said the same evening his condition deterio- rated and Hoffstetter was transported to Bay Pines Vet- eran’s Hospital. His condition worsened and he was flown to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg for a head injury that is con- sidered life-threatening.
Detectives were able to identify the two men he was arguing with at the time of his injury. Jamari Brown, 19, and 20-year-old Dayquan Brown were both arrested.
Jamari Brown was charged with 1 count of aggra- vated assault and 1 count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Dayquan Brown was charged with 1 count of aggravated assault.
