Winter Break Begins For Polk County Schools’
Christmas break for students who attend Polk County’s public schools will begin on Monday, De- cember 19, 2016 (their last
day of class is Friday, Dec. 16th). Classes will resume on Monday, January 3, 2017.
Earn While You Learn At Youth Build-Lakeland
YouthBuild-Lakeland was founded in 2007 in an effort to help young adults, 16 to 24 years of age, who have dropped out of high school, but since that time, have made a decision to work towards improving their lives.

The six-month pro- gram offers classroom in- struction in preparation for the GED exam. In ad- dition, participants get hands-on experience in construction by working on a Habitat for Humanity worksite building afford- able housing for low-in- come families. There is also strong emphasis placed on career develop- ment, personal develop- ment, and leadership development. Partici- pants receive a bi-weekly stipend while earning their GED and learning a skill. They can also re- ceive certifications in First Aid/CPR, forklift and OSHA.
And.....there are schol- arships that can be earned, by participants, to assist with post-secondary education. YouthBuild- Lakeland will host its next Open House on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.
