  Former Sentinel Office Manager Passes

Janice Willingham, who served as the Office Manager at The Sentinel for nearly 20 years, passed away last week. She was 57 years old.
A Tampa native, Ms. Will- ingham was the daughter of the late Mrs. Bettie Willing- ham. She graduated from A. P. Leto High School in 1979. She furthered her education at Florida A&M University, her sister, Rosalyn Willingham, said.
Ms. Willingham re- turned to Tampa, but also resided in Atlanta, GA and St. Louis, MO, where she held po- sitions at banks and the office of an attorney.
Ms. Willingham has been battling illness since 2015, and had been hospital- ized prior to her death on Tues- day, March 19, 2019.

Other than Rosalyn, Jan- ice is survived by another sis- ter, Rhonda Willingham, and other family members.
Funeral services with Ray Williams Funeral Home in charge will be held on Satur- day, March 30, 2019, 11 a. m. at Life In Christ Community Church, 9706 N. 26th St., Tampa.

 The City of Tampa Black History Committee, Inc. (COTBHC), will award schol- arships to African-American graduating high school sen- iors in the Hillsborough County School Districts.
The City of Tampa Black History Committee, Inc., will award scholarships that honor the following Past Presidents and members: (1) Bobby Bowden Scholar- ship - COTBHC founding member and Past President, Mr. Bobby Bowden, for a student attending Florida A&M University; (2) Presi- dential Scholarship - COTBHC Past President, Mrs. Bettye Greene John- son; (3) Janett S. Martin Scholarship -COTBHC Past President, Mrs. Janett S. Martin, City of Tampa’s first African-American City Clerk; (4) Vocational/Technical Scholarship; and (5)

The City of Tampa Black History Committee, Inc., is a non-profit organization that promotes Tampa’s rich her- itage and encourages scholas- tic achievement.
Since 1999, the organiza- tion has partnered with busi- nesses and private donors to distribute over $200,000.00 in scholar- ships to college-bound high school seniors and students currently attending a voca- tional or technical school/col- lege. The COTBHC scholarships exist to create new and on-going educa- tional opportunities for African-American students within the City of Tampa.
