Cuddle Up And Read Every Day (CURED) Hosts 6th Annual Event
The Cuddle Up and Read Every Day (CURED) Com- mittee is gearing up for its 6th annual event to be held Saturday, April 6, 2019, at the Robert W. Saunders, Sr., Library, 10 A. M.-2 P. M.
CURED is one of the edu- cational programs of the Allen Temple Neighborhood Development Corporation of Tampa (ATNDCT), a non- profit organization which un- dertakes projects addressing the educational, economic, environmental and social need of individuals and fam- ilies residing in the Tampa Bay Area.
CURED, a literacy pro- gram, strives to meet the fol- lowing goals:
1) To promote reading among elementary school children;
2) To encourage children to read every day;
3) To expose children to age appropriate literary re- sources;
4) To introduce children to multicultural

In addition to its annual event, CURED also partici- pates in summer camp at Allen Temple African Methodist Episcopal Church and provides literacy time at Broward Elementary School for grades K-2, one morning a week.
Dr. Dunkley points out that the academic and subse- quent ‘life success’ of individ- uals with intellectual curiosity often begin with the derived pleasure of simply “curling up to read” an en- gaging book. She encourages children and their parents to come and be a part of CURED’s critical effort “to help our community.”
Dr. Dunkley, a former teacher, school librarian, in- structor and a retired associ- ate professor from the University of South Florida School of Information, founded the CURED pro- gram six years ago.

and strategies to parents to encourage reading in the home.
The theme for this year’s event is: Books Go Music. To promote the theme, Marian Anderson, a historical con- tralto singer, will be high- lighted. A guitarist, violinist, pianist, and a dancer will fur- ther enhance the program’s music theme.
The planned hands-on
activities are designed to support building founda- tional literacy skills. The stu- dents usually have so much fun with the activities, they do not realize they are learn- ing literacy concepts.
The program is presented in partnership with the Robert W. Saunders, Sr. Pub- lic Library of the Hillsbor- ough County Public Library Cooperative, Safe & Sound Hillsborough, Allen Temple African Methodist Episcopal Church and Gamma
