Today, residents are look- ing forward to upcoming events in the Tampa Bay Area such as the Super Bowl, various events surrounding the Gasparilla Parades, and the arrival of the Florida State Fair. But for one Tampa mother the day marks one of the saddest days of her life.
Ms. Felecia Jackson
remembers one year ago, her son, 23-year-old Zavon Gundy, was fatally shot while in the 2800 block of Satellite Court, in the Colum- bus Court Apartments. He lived in the complex with his girlfriend and three children.
The fatal shooting took place on January 21, 2021, and remains unsolved.
Ms. Jackson said other people were outside at the time of the shooting. “I don’t understand why no one is saying anything. There were other people outside when it happened. My son didn’t de- serve to die like that.
“I am asking anyone with information to please come forward. This doesn’t make sense to me. Anyone who knows anything should speak up. I just want some- one to reach out if they know anything.
“If you know something, say something. I don’t feel like anything is happening in the case. I want the police to investigate, but the detective doesn’t return my calls. This happened in the broad day- light and the place was filled with people. There is no way someone didn’t see some- thing. I need closure,” she said.
A spokesperson for the Tampa Police Department
ZAVON GUNDY 11/19/1996 — 1/21/2021
said, “Please be advised that the absence of updates is not an indication that the case has been shelved. Our detec- tives continue to work on the case as they follow leads, re- examine the evidence and talk with people in the com- munity.”
A Tampa native, Gundy attended the local schools of Hillsborough County and earned his diploma in the job corps. He was a Chef by trade, and was working in a restaurant at the time of his death.
Ms. Jackson further said that her son went to work and stayed home spending time with his fam- ily, and had just picked up his children from school at the time of the shooting. He enjoyed spending time with his family, music, basketball, cracking jokes, and rapping.
Detectives with the Tampa Police Department are continuing to investigate the murder and they are also asking anyone with informa- tion about the murder to contact Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay at 1-800-873- TIPS or online at www.crimestopperstb.com. Tipsters can remain anony- mous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $5,000.

Detectives are currently investigating two deaths that took place last Monday in the Lake Magdalene area. Deputies responded to the lo- cation to conduct a wellness check.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered the body of a woman in the back of a Jeep Compass at the home, in a black trash bag. The body of the male suspect involved in her death was later located inside the residence.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office was called to a home on the 14000 block of Cherry Lake Drive at approx- imately 7 p.m. on Monday, January 10, 2022.
Deputies began making at- tempts to speak with the sus- pect, 52-year-old Charles Siminski, who refused to come out of his home. The HCSO SWAT, Bomb Squad and Crisis Negotiation Team
were called to the residence. After hours of attempting to negotiate with the suspect to come out of his residence, Siminski was ultimately found deceased inside of a bedroom due to a self-in- flicted gunshot wound.
Siminski’s criminal his- tory shows a history of do- mestic violence involving the victim, including an arrest in September 2021 for battery and an incident on December 4, 2021, where the victim suf- fered a laceration to the head after reportedly jumping out of a limousine on N. Dale Mabry Highway following a domestic violence incident with Siminski.
This is an active and ongo- ing investigation.
