Winston Throws 4 TD Passes, Barrett Gets Late Sack As Bucs Outlast Rams
Shaq Barrett Has Just
The Tampa Bay Bucca- neers’ phenomenal start at the Coliseum gave way to creeping dread as the Rams rallied. Tampa Bay’s 18-point lead rapidly shrunk to five early in the fourth quarter, forcing everybody to recall last week’s blown 18-point lead over the Giants.
With one big play after an- other, the Bucs made sure it wouldn’t happen against the defending NFC champions.
And nobody came up big- ger than Shaquil Barrett and Ndamukong Suh.
Jameis Winston passed for 385 yards and threw two of his four touchdown passes to Chris Godwin, and Suh re- turned Jared Goff’s fumble 37 yards for a touchdown with 1:06 to play in the Buccaneers’ 55-40 victory over previously unbeaten Los Angeles on Sun- day.
Godwin had career highs of 12 catches for 172 yards as the Buccaneers (2-2) jumped to an early 21-0 lead and then scored 24 points in a wild fourth quarter to complete the highest-scoring game in the franchise’s 44-year history.
“We’ve got to be able to win games like this, but we don’t want to have to win games like this,” Barrett said. “I don’t like giving up 40 points. That’s what you do in college.”
Suh made a TD return against his old teammates after Barrett forced the fum- ble with his ninth sack of the young season. Tampa Bay gave

up 518 total yards, but hung on for its first win over the Rams since 2010 in a potentially mo- mentous performance under first-year coach Bruce Ari- ans.
“We knew it was going to come down to the last five minutes of that game, whether we played well or not,” Arians said. “We did today, and we’re learning. It was a tough loss last week, but victories like these galvanize a team, and this team is starting to believe and see what they can be.”
Goff passed for a career- high 517 yards and two touch- downs, but the Rams’ $134 million quarterback also threw three interceptions for the sec- ond time in his career. Goff coughed it up while being sacked by Barrett as the Rams (3-1) attempted a tying drive, and Suh scooped and scored against the team with which he reached the Super
Bowl last season.
“They did a great job apply-
ing that pressure and keeping it on all day,” Goff said. “It’s frustrating. It’s something we need to get fixed quickly.”
Peyton Barber and Ronald Jones, II rushed for TDs, and Cameron Brate also had a TD reception. Win- ston picked apart the Los An- geles secondary while going 28 of 41, while Godwin had the most catches by a Tampa Bay receiver since Keyshawn Johnson in 2001 — and it al- most wasn’t enough.
“It just solidifies something that we already know: that we can play with anybody,” God- win said.
Tampa Bay went up 45-27 with 11:35 to play when Mike Evans burned Marcus Pe- ters for a 67-yard TD capped by some goal-line showboat- ing. But after Cooper Kupp caught a 29-yard TD pass, Pe- ters returned an interception 32 yards for a touchdown with 8:11 to play.
Tampa Bay went back ahead by eight when Winston led a 72-yard drive capped by Matt Gay’s short field goal with 2:35 left. Goff got the Rams to midfield, but Barrett and Suh finished strong in Tampa Bay’s first game in Los Angeles since 1993.
“Knowing McVay and being with them all last year, they want to pass the ball,” Suh said. “They pride them- selves on getting yardage and making plays in the air, al- though they have some great running backs.”
Marcus Peters Evaluated For Concussion After Huge Hit From Donovan Smith On Pick-Six

The Tampa Bay Bucca- neers beat the Los Angeles Rams today in the highest- scoring game in Buccaneers history (55-40).
While Todd Bowles’ crew intercepted Rams quar- terback Jared Goff three times and sacked him twice. Linebacker Shaquil Barrett, who had a monster perform- ance last week against the New York Giants with four sacks, had a sack and inter- ception today, bringing his season sack total to nine.
With the interception, though, Barrett did some- thing no NFL player before

him has done.
Barrett is the 1st player
since sacks became official in 1982 to record at least 8 sacks and 1 Int in his team's 1st 4 games of a season.
Done Something No Other
Marcus Peters’ big pick- six for the Los Angeles Rams against the Tampa Bay Bucca- neers on Sunday came with a cost.
The Bucs were leading 45- 34 with about eight minutes left when Jameis Winston was intercepted by Peters, who returned the ball 32 yards for a touchdown.
Just as he got to the goal line, Peters was crushed by Bucs lineman Donovan Smith.
The hit was so direct and forceful that Peters was eval- uated for a concussion.
Peters was credited with one tackle and two passes de- fended in the 55-40 loss to Tampa Bay.
