   City To Host Memorial For Fallen Officer
 On Tuesday, October 1st, the Tampa Police Department will host a Memorial Service for a fallen officer. He died in the line of duty 80 years ago.
The Memorial Service will take place at 11:30 a.m., in front of the Tampa Police De- partment, 411 N. Franklin Street, in downtown Tampa.
There is not much infor- mation available of Detective Joe Nance. Researchers have learned that Detective Nance was employed at the Tampa Police Department.
On September 25, 1939, Detective Nance assigned to the Homicide Squad and was going to Lakeland to interview a witness. A truck forced his vehicle off the road and De- tective Nance was seriously injured.
He was transported to Lakeland Hospital, where he died a week later as a result of his injuries.
Detective Nance was the first African American Tampa Police officer to die in the line of duty. He was 67-years-old at the time of his death and had been employed with the department for 18 years.
Detective Nance has no known surviving family mem- bers and no photographs of him have been located.
 Charter School Potential Applicant Orientation
 The Hillsborough County Public Schools Charter Office will be holding a Potential Ap- plicant Orientation for prospective charter school op- erators on Thursday, October 10, from 8:30 a. m.-12:30 p.m.
The meeting will be in Room 164 at the Instructional Services Center (ISC) located at 2920 North 40th Street,
Tampa.
The orientation is de-
signed to advise potential charter applicants of the ap- plication process aligned with Florida Statutes and will in- clude information on apply- ing for a charter within Hillsborough County.

   New St. Matthew M. B. Church Men’s Health Fair And Forum
 The men at New St. Matthew M. B. Church and several partners will be host- ing a Men’s Health Fair & Forum. The FREE and open to the public event will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2019, 9 a. m – 1:30 p. m.
The event will be held at the church, 1006 S. 50th St., Tampa 33619, Rev. Alec Hall, pastor. Lunch will be provided.
