Opponents Of
Airport Job Fair To Fill 200 Positions Planned
Proposed Toll Expressway Try To Spread The Word
On Monday, March 28th, the Tampa International Air- port will host its Second Job Fair for Concessions. The event will take place from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., in the Hills- borough County Aviation Au- thority Board Room, 4100 George J. Bean Parkway, Tampa, FL 33607.
Concessionaires hope to fill 200 positions in shops and restaurants slated to open soon.
Participants in the job fair include the companies repre- senting Hard Rock Café, P.F.
Chang’s, Four Green Fields, Illy Espressamente, The Gas- parilla Bar and the CNBC and Tampa Bay Times news and convenience shops.
These hourly positions in- clude servers, bartenders, utility workers, hosts, line cooks, cashiers, prep cooks and retail sales associates.
The openings come as part of the airport’s compre- hensive concessions overhaul that will bring 65 new shops and restaurants to the airport.
More than 40 percent of the food and beverage con-
cepts will be dedicated to local brands, including such favorites as Ulele, Four Green Fields and Buddy Brew Cof- fee. Participation in the Air- port Concessions Disadvantaged Business En- terprise (ACDBE) increased from three companies to 15. About 30 new concessions will open this year.

LINDA SAUL-SENA
BY LEON B. CREWS Sentinel Staff Writer
Opponents Linda Saul- Sena, Mauricio Rosas, and Lena Young-Green are trying to garner more community interest in the proposed Florida Depart- ment of Transportation’s (FDOT) TBX project.
The project will put toll lanes down the middle of I- 275 at the expense of the sur- rounding community, mostly Tampa Heights and Seminole Heights.
Opponents have said the project would not only de- stroy the history of those communities, but would also remove houses and buildings that have been around for more than a decade.
“FDOT will be opening an office at 2105 North Ne- braska Avenue on March 28th; the same building where citizens go to pay their water bills.
“In that office are maps that will show the destruction that will be caused by this TBX project.”
Mrs. Saul-Sena said she’s upset that people don’t know what’s going on with this project.
“I think FDOT dropped the ball in notifying residents and business owners about this project. I’m sure they sent out some kind of com- munication, but it didn’t ad- dress the specifics of the project or its scope.
“I think it’s important cit- izens go to the FDOT office on Nebraska and look at the maps. That will give them a visual perspective of what’s going on. After that, I hope to see more people attending the meetings.”
Mrs. Saul-Sena said more than 40% of the im- pacted population will be African Americans, and they have been unrepresented at the meetings.

“Every first Saturday of the month we, along with Sunshine Citizens and a Coalition group, will be stag- ing marches in protest of the project.
“The next march will be April 2nd at 11 a.m., and will begin at 703 East Floribraska Avenue.”
Mauricio Rosas of Sun- shine Citizens said, there are a lot of meetings coming up and he’s been sending out let- ters trying to let people know what’s going on.
“I’ve reached out to sev- eral churches in the area, but none of them returned my calls. I think what’s missing is community recognition and true leadership.
“I don’t understand why more people haven’t taken interest in this project. I don’t want it to be a done deal be- fore people realize just how serious this is.”
Lena Young-Green
said it’s crucial that people don’t get caught up in the personal battles of individu- als and keep in mind this is something that will impact an entire community.
“We have to keep in mind what we can do to stop this project, and get all the sup- port it will take.
“Be careful who you listen to about this project, because some people have their own agenda, and they aren’t look- ing for the same results as we are.”
