For those who are working in their communities, fighting to drive out crime and poverty and pour in more opportuni- ties, the Rev. Jonathan Mason, Sr. wants you to know this: keep going.
There’s more work to be done.
In his keynote address Saturday at the 5th Annual Blue Tie Affair, Rev. Mason – the 34th international pres- ident of Phi Beta Sigma Fra- ternity, Inc. – charged those in the audience, especially fel- low members of historically Black Greek organizations, to be “soldiers” in the fight to protect and guide children and save their communities.
“When we can look at Chicago and see that hun- dreds have been killed just a few months into the new year...we as the Divine Nine have some work to do,” he said.
Rev. Mason, senior pas- tor of Philadelphia’s North- east Baptist Church and CEO of JAM Media Solutions, cau- tioned the audience to be aware of efforts of politicians who threaten to “turn back the clock” on civil rights gains made in the last two genera- tions.
He reminded attendees that African Americans were not always welcomed at pub-
good enough,” he said. “Your talents are needed. Until every child has a table at the seat of success, none of us are at the seat of success.”
Adversity is sure to come when you’re doing good things, but don’t let it sway you from the mission, he said.
“You cannot be stopped with God on your side,” he said.
The Blue Tie Affair is the annual fundraising event for Gamma Eta Sigma’s Crescent Foundation Inc., which pro- vides money for scholarships and programming for mem- bers of the chapter’s Sigma Beta Club for young men ages 13 to 18.
The Blue Tie Affair funnels on average $5,000 into the foundation’s coffers, said Daniel Smith, the founda- tion’s president.
Members of the commu- nity also were honored for their service, including Hills- borough County Public Schools Superintendent Jeff Eakins, Tampa Police Chief Eric Ward, and Carl Har- ness, the chief human serv- ices administrator for Hillsborough County, and Suzanne McCormick, CEO of the United Way Suncoast.
Cassius Butts, an Or- lando-native who is the re- gional director of the U.S. Small Business Administra- tion for the southeast, also was honored.

lic venues such as the Crowne Plaza Hotel where the event was located.
“We’ve got to remember where we’ve come from to en- sure our children have a fu- ture,” he said.
The outreach to help young Black children succeed is personal for Rev. Mason who shared his struggle as a student who was repeatedly expelled from school and told his future was limited.
But thanks to “God of sec- ond chances, a God of third chances” Rev. Mason would go on to graduate high school and obtain a degree from Nor- folk State University.
Black children – especially those who are at-risk – need to see more Black adults in their communities reaching back to help, he said.
After all, the founders of historically Black Greek or- ganizations planted seeds of social action not social activ- ity, Rev. Mason said.

Mrs. Marie Tarver White is hosting a free event this weekend to showcase the return of her hats and fash- ions.
The event, Hat-A-Tude and Fashion, will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2016, 2- 6 p. m. in the Courtyard Mar- riott, 102 E. Cass St., Tampa (33602). Casual attire is wel- come and you don’t have to wear a hat, states Mrs. White. Those in attendance will receive a free gift.
Mrs. White is known by the fashionable hats she wears. She reaches out to dis- tributors around the country in search of unique and differ- ent fashionable hats and suits, especially for church attire. Mrs. White said since she has received so many in- quiries from women wanting to know if she was going to go back into the fashion busi- ness, she decided to follow up on the idea. She also has attire for men.
“God has been so good to my mother,” Samantha Bolton Randall stated. “This is her season and she’ll do a great job getting back into hats and fashions...be- cause she’s a child of the

Mrs. White initially went into the distribution of hats and fashions about 10 years ago. “The first time I hosted an event it was in memory of my mother who died in 2005,” she explained.
Mrs. White is the ‘First Lady’ of Mt. Carmel M. B. Church, Plant City, where her husband is the pastor.

His Health
Lord, I pray for Your healing touch on (husband’s name). Make every part of his body function the way You designed it to. Wherever there is anything out of balance, set it in perfect working order. Heal him of any disease, illness, injury, infirmity, or
weakness. Strengthen his body to success- fully endure his workload and when he sleeps may he wakeup completely rested re- juvenated, and refreshed. I pray that he will have the desire to take care of his body, to eat the kind of food that brings health, to get reg- ular exercise, and avoid anything that would be harmful to hm. Help him to understand that his body is Your temple and he should care for it as such. (1 Corinthians 3:16)
I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will heal you. 2 KINGS 20:5
