Man Killed After Pointing Gun At Deputy
Crime
 Educator
Dies At 74
One man was killed, an- other arrested, and a deputy was all involved in a shooting late Thursday. The shooting took place in an alleyway in St. Petersburg.
According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, an of- ficer from the Clearwater Po- lice Department attempted to make a traffic stop on Ham Boulevard and U. S. 19. The driver of the Lexus fled and continued south on U. S. 19. The traffic stop was ter- minated.

A Tampa woman who served as an educator in Hillsborough County Public School District died. Mrs. Flora Poitier was 74-years- old.
She passed at a hospice facility on Friday, of a cancer related illness.
A Tampa native, Mrs. Poitier attended the public schools of Hillsborough County. After graduating from Middleton High School, she and her twin, Evora Pi- mento, continued their ed- ucation at Bethune-Cookman College.
After graduating, the twins returned home and launched their careers. Mrs. Poitier touched the lives of countless Hillsborough County residents as a class- room teacher for more than 37 years.
Mrs. Poitier was a staunch, lifelong member of Mount Sinai A. M. E. Zion Church, where she sang in

the choir. “We were all bap- tized in that church and she was active until the very end,” her sister, Mrs. Doretha Edgecomb said.
Mrs. Poitier and her sisters followed the path as educators of their mother, the late Mrs. Sarah Wynn. Their family now has five generations of educators.
Mrs. Poitier is survived by her husband, Frank, 3 daughters, 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 2 sis- ters, other family members and friends.
A Memorial Service for Mrs. Poitier will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2020, at 11 a.m., at Mount Sinai A. M. E. Zion Church. Ray Williams Funeral Home is in charge of handling arrange- ments.

The car was registered to a resident at 2222 36th Street, South, in St. Petersburg. Clearwater police contacted the Pinellas County Violent Crimes Task Force. Members of the Task Force responded to the area to look for the ve- hicle.
Deputy Richard Curry, Jr, 32, was parked in an unmarked car in the alley- way next to the residence. He was wearing a police uni- form and identified himself as a deputy.
An unidentified man came up to the car and the deputy rolled down the dri- ver’s window and identified himself as a police officer. The man went back inside the home.
A few moments later, the same man and another man came out of the house and approached the deputy with guns pointed at the car. Deputy Curry exited the vehicle and began firing his service revolver. The men dropped an AR style rifle and semi-automatic handgun as they fled.
Police discovered 29- year-old Marquis Golden dead in the rear of the home. They later discovered 22- year-old Delvin Ford hid- ing on the roof with a handgun in the 2300 block of 36th Street, South. He was taken into custody.
Deputy Curry was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigations.
