  Progress Village Middle Magnet School Students Visit Dr. Smith’s Library

 After the students toured the library, they enjoyed a feast with Dr. Smith at Texas de Brazil.
During the week of February 19th, 8th grade students at Progress Village Middle Magnet School celebrated Diversity and Awareness.
The week included several activities. Options to dress in African attire, attend theatrical performance by StageWorks, Fred’s lunch buffet, and Dr. Walter Smith Library on February 22nd.
Dr. Smith shared his obstacles, education, and opportuni- ties in life with 16 students. The former president of FAMU shared his local, state, national, and international influence. Students were also able to ask questions and view iconic and historical images of the African-American Experience.
Teacher, Mrs. Senter-Odom and counselor Sharon Seabrooks plan to expand the field trip for the 2019 school year to take a group of 8th grade students to the Smithsonian African-American Museum in Washington, D. C.
“I believe not just textbooks, but experiences enrich stu- dents’ ability to apply learning and develop connections,” stated teacher Mrs. Senter-Odom.
   Yvette Ballard Sims
(formerly of Tampa) and Theodor P. Jackson were wed on February 24th at Mount Olive AME Church in Fort Myers, Rev. James C. Givens, Pastor.
Assisting in the celebration where the bride’s brothers, Henry, Jr. and Lionel, of Tampa; sister, Cheryl Riley of Coral Springs; daughter, Andrea of Deerfield Beach; and nieces and nephews from Tampa: Henry, III (escorted the bride), and son, Blake, Monica Brown and sons, Michael, III and Christo- pher; Zoey Ballard, Mayliah Williams and Richel Riley, Orlando.
