DEACON JAMES MATTHEW BERRIEN
A Celebration of Life Service for Deacon James Matthew Berrien will be held on Satur- day, January 2, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Mount Moriah M.B. Church, 5908 Vel Street, Wimauma, FL 33598, with Pastor Rev. Eddie Starling, officiating. Interment will follow in Wimauma Com- munity Cemetery.

Deacon James Matthew Berrien, of Wimauma, departed this life on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, and he was 100 years old.
He was born in Rincon, Georgia (Effingham County) to George Henry Berrien and Sula Riley Berrien Jackson. He was raised by his father, George, his mother, Sula and stepfather, Charlie Jackson and lived in Rincon, GA, Cedar Key and Ft. Lonesome, FL.
As some may know, Deacon James did not know Christ in his early years, but was con- verted later as an adult.
Deacon James grew up dur- ing the Great Depression and served in World War, II, in the United States Navy in Guam and Navy station in Pearl Har-
bor.Deacon James worked many years at Gardiner, Inc. Phosphate Plant in Gibsonton, FL and later in life he worked as a Community Leader for his beloved Wimauma. He was well known in the community as the “Honorary Mayor.”
He earned this title during the time he used to go and ruf- fle a lot of feathers at the Hills- borough County Government Offices fighting for improve- ments and developments for his beloved Wimauma Community. As President of Citizen Im- provement Board, a few of his greatest achievements were helping with HUD housing by improving the housing in Wimauma and the school’s movement where he was a part of the transition team that helped move the Old Sun City school to Bethune Park in the Wimauma Community. His number one goal was to push

Deacon James had a servant heart, serving faithfully at Mt. Moriah M. B. Church for over 70 years. He worked and served in many positions and areas in the church including Trustee, and many years later he became a Church Deacon. He also served in a leadership role in Mt. Pil- grim Baptist Congress #3 and the Brotherhood Ministry. He received many commendations and medals for his community services. He has been a great fa- ther and grandfather to his chil- dren and grandchildren and to the community children who loved spending time with him to hear him speak of all things he witnessed in his lifetime.
By the grace of God, He lived to see Cellular phones, an African American President, and an African American Woman Vice President in office.
Deacon James Matthew Berrien was preceded in death by: his beloved wife, Lillie Mae Berrien; mother, Sula Riley Berrien Jackson; father, George Henry Berrien; and stepfather, Charlie Jackson; five brothers, Woodrow Berrien, George Berrien, Raphel Berrien, Theodore (Bubba) and William Jackson (Bill); one sister, Nellie Whitehurst; one son, Theodore Berrien; one daughter, Gloria Young; two grandsons, Lloyd Young and Harold Gibson; great, great, great grands, Michael Car- rie and Sky Berrien.
Deacon James is survived by: his four sons, James Wilkie Berrien (Thelma) of Sun City Center, FL, Robert Lee Berrien (Inell) of Wimauma, FL, John Edward Berrien (Altamese) of Clearwater, FL and Larry Donald Berrien (Laquita) of Tampa, FL; one daughter, Pamela Louise Berrien of Wimauma, FL; (2) sis- ters-in-law, Ora Bell Levins of Wimauma, FL and Doris Berrien of Ft. Meade, FL; (1) son-in-law, Charlie Young of Ruskin, FL; 38 grandchildren; 159 great grand- children; 70 great, great grand- children; and 3 great, great, great grandchildren; 11 nieces and 12 nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends and the entire community of Wimauma.
Special friends, Mr. Nathaniel Washington, Sister Aquilla Morgan and Daisy Cooper; Special caregivers, Pamela Berrien (devoted daugh- ter), grandsons, James Alfonso Berrien and Paul Maple; Special Thanks to Ms. Gloria-Humana Aide, Hospice Green Team and Veteran Affairs Geriatric. MR. EZZARD CHARLES MAYO
Mr. Ezzard Charles Mayo of Riverview, Florida, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2020. A graveside funeral service will be conducted Saturday, January 2 at 11:00 a.m. at Rest Haven Memo- rial Park Cemetery, 4615 E. Hanna Avenue, with Pastor Don- ald Lott, officiating. Interment will follow. Please follow the CDC guidelines. Masks are re- quired.
Mr. Ezzard Charles Mayo was a native of Eufaula, Alabama, and a resident of Tampa for 58 years. He was educated in the public schools of Eufaula, AL and Tampa, FL.
He leaves to cherish his mem- ory: his brothers, Herman Mayo, Earnest Mayo and Larry Mayo; sisters, Gwen Mayo, Brenda Mayo, Lynda Mayo and Sherry Mayo; cousin, Hattie Howard (Leroy); nieces and nephews, Charmane Salisbury, Nicole Bris- tor, Shantrell Mayo, Regina Ware, Larry Mayo, Jr., Jackie Mayo, JaJuan Montgomery, Dar- nae Montgomery, Shanequa Montgomery, Ahmaad Mayo, Javaris Mayo and Veronica Mayo; a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

MISS CANDI DENISE WHITLOCK
Miss Candi Denise Whitlock, of Tampa passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2020. Funeral serv- ices will be conducted Saturday, January 2, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Bible-Based Fellowship Church, 4811 Ehrlich Road, with Reverend Anthony C. White, officiating. In- terment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.

Candi was a native of Tampa, Florida, born to Lazette Davis and Larry Whitlock and was a resident of Tampa for 37 years. In her youth, she accepted Christ and was member of Bible-Based Fellowship Church of Carrollwood, where she served in the Nursery Ministry throughout her teen years. She at- tended Jefferson High School and was a graduate of the Class of 2002 and later attended Hillsborough Community College.
She held several positions in sales and upon her demise was en- rolled in University of Phoenix pur- suing a degree in Medical Records.
She was preceded in death by: her grandparents, Lamar and Renee Davis, Annie M. Thompson, and Coleman Whitlock; great grandparents, Leroy and Bertha Green, and Mary and Will Davis; great uncles, Leroy Green, Jr., and
