     Citizens Encouraged To Register For March Election

On Tuesday, January 8th, Amendment 6 was one of the new laws that went into effect. The amendment re- stores the rights of con- victed felons to vote.
According to the new law, anyone convicted of a felony and who has satisfied all requirements issued by the courts, can register and vote in the upcoming elec- tion. The exceptions are those convicted of murder or a sex crime.
Craig Latimer, Hills- borough County Supervisor of Elections said, “We were steadily busy with people walking in to register to vote all throughout the day on January 8th, and expressed a lot of excitement to have this opportunity. I spoke with someone who said he’d been waiting 20 years for the right to vote.”
According to his office, 68 people walked into the office to register, 204 sub- mitted registration applica- tions online; and 162

applications were submitted at the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Ms. Gerri Kramer, Di- rector of Communications for the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections said, they did not ask the citizens if they were convicted felons, but the number of people registering was un- usually high.
City of Tampa Election
The next election will take place on March 5th for the City of Tampa Municipal Election. During this elec-
tion, a new mayor and sev- eral City Council members will be elected.
The last day for residents living within the City of Tampa boundaries to regis- ter is Monday, February 4, 2019. Early Voting will begin on Monday, February 25th and end on Sunday, March 3rd. Early Voting will take place between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
The Municipal Election will take place on Tuesday, March 5th. Voters can cast ballots between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Plant City Election
The last day for residents living within the City of Plant City boundaries to register is Monday, March 25, 2019. Early Voting will begin on Monday, Monday, April 14th and will end on Sunday, April 20th. Early Voting will take place be- tween 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
The Municipal Election will take place on Tuesday, April 23rd. Voters can cast ballots between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
