Police Seek Help To Solve Murder Of Man Found In Alley
President Of HCC Charged With DUI
Police are investigating the murder of a Tampa man whose body was found in an alley Thursday afternoon. He was discovered in an alley bordered by E. Comanche Avenue, E. Mohawk Avenue, N. 9th Street and N. 11th Street.
Tampa Police said the man has been identified as 25- year-old Dontae Lamp- kins, of Tampa. Police said Lampkins died of upper body trauma.
At the time his body was discovered, Lampkins was wearing a dark blue sweat suit. Police said they don’t be- lieve the murder was ran- dom.
Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay is offering a reward of up to $3,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of a suspect in the murder.

The Tampa Police Depart- ment arrested the President of Hillsborough Community College Saturday evening. He was charged with driving while under the influence.
The arresting officer said he observed a Range Rover driven by Dr. Ken Atwa- ter traveling north on Dale Mabry around 9:30 p.m. He reportedly observed the ve- hicle failing to maintain a single lane of travel several times.

port that he detected an odor of alcohol coming from the driver’s breath. The offi- cer further said the driver’s
eyes were glassy and his speech was slurred.
The officer said he did agree to perform sobriety field exercises. The officer said he was observed the man to show signs of im- pairment and he was taken into custody and charged with DUI.
The driver was identified by his Florida Driver’s li- cense as Dr. Ken Atwater, President of Hillsborough Community College.
Dr. Atwater was trans- ported to the Hillsborough County Jail. He was released after posting a $500 bond.
Police Search For Suspect Who
Used Victim’s Credit Card
Police searching for a teenager wanted in connection with a vehicle burglary. He was ob- served using the victim’s credit card twice at a local convenience store.
According to the Hillsbo- rough County Sheriff’s Office, during the night of January 6th and the morning of Janu- ary 7th, someone broke into a vehicle parked in the Wex- ford Townhomes, in the 8000 block of Tipperary Lane.
At approximately 4:09 a.m., a young Black teenager was photographed using a credit card taken from the car at a Wawa Store, located at 7408 E. Hillsborough Ave- nue.
The same suspect was cap- tured on video 8 minutes later using the credit card again.

Man Wanted For Molesting Children Arrested After Burglary
Police arrested a 32-year- old man who a woman said broken into her home. The man, dressed in Sponge Bob clothing was standing over the woman as she slept on her sofa.
When the woman woke up, the man ran from the home in the area of 21st Avenue and 7th Street. She called police and reported the incident that took place around 7:15 a.m. Monday. About 20 min- utes later, a man fitting that description was seen looking through the window of a home near 22nd Avenue and 5th Street, as the woman was getting dressed.
Police were called and the man ran. However, officers chased him to the yard of 511 25th Avenue, South, where he attempted to hide in the trash can to avoid arrest.
He was identified as
Steven Charles Kirkland,
of St. Petersburg. He was charged with burglary, loiter- ing and prowling, trespass- ing, and burglary of an unoccupied home.

After identifying Kirk- land, police learned that he was wanted on two counts of lewd and luscious molesta- tion on a child under the age of 12. Those incidents took place on January 22nd. Police also said Kirkland is facing possible charges for indecent exposure from a different in- cident that took place on Jan- uary 22nd at the Bay Vista Park.
Police believe there could be more victims. If anyone has information, contact the St. Petersburg Police Depart- ment.

Nearly 50 Guns Stolen During Burglary Of Business
Around 4 a.m., Sunday, deputies with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office re- sponded to a burglar alarm at Guns Galore, 2440 U. S. Highway 92 East, in Lake- land.
Deputies arrived within 3 minutes of the alarm alert, and discovered the front door lock was broken and the glass
gun cases had been broken. Detectives said more than 46 handguns were stolen
during the burglary. Police said the business
was burglarized on December 24, 2016, and 12 firearms were stolen during that bur- glary.
The investigation is contin- uing.
