The announcement of the city’s plans to put three round- abouts along 34th Street has left business owners and resi- dents with a lot of questions about the proposed project.
City of Tampa Director of Transportation and Stormwa- ter Services, Jean Duncan, said there will be a public meeting held, and it had been planned for November, but due to the holidays, it may be pushed back to January 2017.
The location of the round- abouts will be at 34th Street and 21st Avenue, 34th Street and Lake Avenue, and 34th
Street and Osborne Avenue. Duncan said the location of the roundabouts was se- lected after a study by the city analyzed intersections and where they felt roundabouts
needed to be located.
“We looked at accident re-
ports and other factors, and discovered one of the top three fatal areas for crashes was along 34th Street.
“Along with the round- abouts, there are other safety improvements we will be mak- ing along that corridor.”

CDC Of Tampa To Host 24th Annual Nehemiah Legacy Luncheon

Members of the commu- nity will gather at the TPepin Hospitality Centre, 4121 N. 50th Street, on Tuesday, Octo- ber 11th, at 11:30 a.m. to cele- brate the 24th Annual Nehemiah Legacy Luncheon.
The luncheon is the signa- ture fundraiser for the CDC of Tampa, Inc., (Corporation to Develop Communities).
The theme this year is
“Creating Economic Op- portunity.”
During the luncheon, members of the organization will share their vision and plans for the upcoming year.
Ernest Coney, Jr., Pres- ident and CEO of the CDC of Tampa, Inc., said, “We are al- ways pleased to celebrate being here and being able to provide needed services to the community. But the true cele- bration lies in the success of those we serve.”
The keynote speaker is Paul Weech, President and CEO of NeighborWorks Amer- ica.
Weech has served as Chief of Staff at the United States Small Business Administra- tion, and various other govern- mental organizations. He
joined NeighborWorks Amer- ica after leaving the Housing Partnership Network.
Other special guests slated to attend the luncheon include Congresswoman Kathy Castor, County Commis- sioner Chair Les Miller, Jr., City Council Chair Mike Suarez, and Brian Auld, President of the Tampa Bay Rays.
Each year the CDC of Tampa, Inc., pays special trib- ute to residents in the commu- nity who have made outstanding contributions.
This year, the organization will recognize Hillsborough County Commissioner Ken Hagan, Ms. Suzanee Mc- Cormick, President of the United Way Suncoast, and David Ogburn, Board Mem- ber of the CDC of Tampa, Inc.
