Residents Share How They Felt About First Presidential Debate
under her skin. It was a lop- sided victory for Mrs. Clin- ton; looking more presidential than Mr. Trump. Finally, Mr. Trump failed to bridge any gap on the shameful birther issue.”

said, “More than an opportu- nity for two opposing sides to showcase their knowledge and verbal skill, a serious debate re- veals an individual or group’s ability to maintain etiquette in presenting opposing points of view and sound argument com- bined with dogged fact-check- ing and a matter-of-fact nature.
“In a debate, it is the posi- tion of two differing parties to present their arguments in a manner that might affect minds and change opinion. With a handful more of these so-called debates, perhaps we could be steps closer to answer- ing the question, “Will the real presidential candidate step for- ward?” For it could prove bet- ter for us to debate the distinct qualifications of the partici- pants in this arena than settle on his or her spoken prowess and/or lessons learned.”
Jerry Brunson said, “I felt like Donald Trump is crazy and he is a loose cannon. He wasn’t well versed on the is- sues, and he wasn’t prepared. He is not what this country needs as a leader.
continued hatred towards President Obama. It is ob- vious that Mrs. Clinton has prepared herself for the White House and has the stamina to do the job. She is poised and presidential. I only hope that the majority of the electorate sees it this way; at least the young voters in America!”

On Monday night, millions of Americans had the opportu- nity to witness the two presi- dential candidates in a debate. Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton debated Republican nominee Donald Trump.
Mrs. Clinton seemed at ease and well prepared for the task at hand. And, Donald Trump attempted, unsuccess- fully, to present himself in a calmer manner.
Some local residents who watched the debate shared their comments with Sentinel readers.
Danny Green said, “Con- gratulation to Hillary Clin- ton. She did a great job in the debate. Donald Trump started off cool and calm at first. Then, later in the debate he showed his true colors. First of all, Donald Trump tried to bully Hillary Clinton, but she stood her ground very well.
How can Donald Trump talk about making America great when he have companies over- seas himself?
“And he would not rent to African Americans back in the seventies. And, he hasn’t paid taxes in the last 15 years. Trump wants to take oil from the small countries you cannot do that, you cannot be a world bully. All he talked about was himself and what he did. I think Hillary Clinton did a great job standing up to him and she was well prepared for this debate.”
Dr. George Foxx said, “The presidential debate be- tween Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump gave Ameri- cans an opportunity to evaluate both candidates. In my opin- ion, Hillary Clinton beat Donald Trump. Pleasant at first, Mr. Trump then became rudely interruptive, agitated, and frustrated. Hillary Clin- ton kept her composure with- out letting Mr. Trump get
“I think even a blind man can see that he is not the per- son to lead this country. I think Hillary Clinton did a fantas- tic job and I hope that others can see through the propa- ganda.”
Joe Robinson said, “I be- lieve that Hillary Clinton won the debate. But, they are still tied and the next two de- bates will be the tie-breaker.
“Trump toned it down for about a half of a second. And he did put his foot down about the Chicago murders. But the next two debates will tell the story.”
Dr. Samuel Wright said, “From the Presidential Debate, I gleaned that Hillary Clin- ton is prepared to be Com- mander in Chief, as confirmed by President Obama at the National Democratic Conven- tion. She did an awesome job in answering questions in every area, while Donald Trump meandered in the maze of mediocrity and never apolo- gized for his discriminate be- havior towards African Americans in the housing in- dustry back in the '70s.
“I was particularly pleased how she discussed the issues confronting Black males in our communities and the role of law enforcement in training and community policing.
“America doesn't need a loose cannon like Donald Trump; his temperament is quite troubling. He disre- spected both Hillary Clinton and Lester Holt, the modera- tor.
“It is crystal clear that he was unprepared and expressed

“NBC’s Lester Holt opened the first 2016 Presidential De- bate by stating he wanted the candidates to, “promote their policies, positions, visions, and values.”
From the start, Republican Donald Trump seemed un- prepared, and his lack of cre- dentials and information was obvious. He constantly spoke in generalities and clichéd su- perlatives. On the flip side, when he was pinned down, his harsh denials and displays of sullen resignation were any- thing but presidential.
“His “Trumped up trickle- down” economic plan, (so dubbed by Democrat Hillary Clinton) to give tax breaks to the rich has failed to work for previous administrations. Fur- ther, his boasts about stiffing on payments to small busi- nesses by “taking advantage of the law,” being “smart” in pay- ing zero taxes, and settling a rental property racial exclusion lawsuit “with no admission of guilt,” reveal the thinking of a con man - not someone who would lead to benefit every- one.
“Hillary Clinton was the superior communicator who demonstrated an attitudinal and linguistic proficiency that speaks to the world. Her posi- tions were largely inclusive as she addressed specific issues of “prosperity, America’s direc- tion, and securing America.” Even Trump acknowledged her experience, nonetheless la- beling it “bad.”
“Presently, 42% of voters are registered as Independent. Theorists claim third party vot- ing basically pulls support from the candidate who’s closest to your preference. Words mat- ter. Votes matter. Thinking citizens must decide what is most important; making a statement or making a differ- ence?”
