This will mark the 19th

four local organizations: the Tampa Bay Academy of Hope, All Children’s Hospi- tal, the Children’s Home, and Shaw Elementary School.
Entitled the “Cavalry Charge For Children,” the fundraiser will begin on Friday, September 2nd, with a 3 p.m., Meet and Greet at the Clarion Inn, 9931 E. Adamo Drive. There will also be a motorcycle ride in honor of the founder, Carl Loury.
There will be a full day of activities, including a cookout that begins at 12 noon and will end at 4 p.m., on Satur- day. This event will be held at Harley Davidson Brandon,

In addition to helping fi- nancially, the organization serves as mentors for chil- dren, volunteers, and assists with a variety of other activi- ties.
Not to be confused with the Buffalo Soldiers Horse Soldiers, the Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club of Tampa is an affiliate of the national or- ganization and its own entity.
The Tampa, or Mother Chapter, was founded by Loury, of St. Petersburg in
1997. Today, the organization has 8 chapters throughout the state. Designed as a serv- ice organization for motorcy- cle enthusiasts, its membership varies from re- tired military, law enforce- ment, and other professionals. However, its doors are open to anyone who wants to become a part of a service organization.
Nixon stated that the group spends a lot of time riding and that bikers average 30,000 miles per year.
“We’re standing on the shoulders of members of the 9th and 10th Cavalry to keep their history alive. The 9th and 10th Cavalry were the first group of African Americans authorized by Congress to bear weapons after the Civil War,” Nixon said.
In addition to their own events, the Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club serves as a support unit for other organ- izations throughout the coun- try.
Currently, there are 8 Chapters, consisting of about 400 members in the state.
