Detectives have arrested three people in connection with a gas station skimmer in- vestigation.
The investigation began earlier this month.
According to the Hillsbor- ough County Sheriff’s Office, the arrests took place Saturday. The investigation is linked to skimmers being found in Riverview.
Several skimmers were found on gasoline pumps at 13202 Summerfield Boulevard, in Riverview since October 4th. Around 3:20 a.m. last Satur- day, surveillance cameras recorded a white Ford F250 ar- riving at the same gas station.
A passenger walked over to a pump as the driver pulled up next to the pump to block view of the sus- pect from the street. The suspect attempted to open several pumps, which caused
damage to the equipment, police said.
The pickup truck was stopped by a deputy after leav- ing the gas station. Detectives conducted a search of the vehicle and located a skimming device component (modified USB with a wire har- ness), a gas station pump key, a crow bar and a long flathead screw driver.
The three occupants in the truck have been identified as Yunior Torres-Herrera, 33, Alain Garcia Blanco, 32, and 20-year-old David Fer- nandez. All three were taken into custody and charged with 1 count of possession of a skim- ming device and three counts of possession of burglary tools.
The investigation is contin- uing and more charges could follow if detectives determine if the men are linked to other skimmer cases.
