The Rev Dr. Arthur L. (A. L.) Lewter passed away Sunday in McDonough, GA, after a lengthy illness. He was 85 years 0ld.

Rev. Dr. Lewter is known for the strong, gospel voice he had at Tampa’s Greater Mt. Moriah Primitive Baptist Church. He was the first soloist for the Gospel Music Workshop Of America – Tampa Chapter — when they recorded their first album at New Mt. Zion under Arthur T. Jones and Milton Biggham, Rev. Lewter’s daughter, Linda Williams said.
Rev. Dr. Lewter has made numerous trips to Tampa since leaving, as the guest speaker for several churches in the area. He retired from the ministry in 2013 as the Senior Pastor of Star of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church of Ossining, NY, after serving as pastor 20 years. He served 46 years in the ministry.
Prior to leaving Florida, Rev. Dr. Lewter pastored Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist in St. Petersburg and St. John Primi- tive Baptist Church, Clearwater.
After leaving Florida, he went on to pastor in Santa Ana,
Deputies responded to an apartment shortly after noon on Tuesday in reference to two deceased men. Police said both men lived in the apartment.
Deputies arrived at 14610 N. 42nd Street, Apartment 307. De- tectives responded to the scene and discovered that Michael Edward Kurz, 59, suffered upper body trauma. Juan Luis Hernandez, II, 30, was also found dead.
Detectives have ruled the deaths as an apparent murder- suicide. Kurz was Hernan- dez’s stepfather. The family had recently moved to the area from St. Petersburg.

said, “We are saddened to re- port another senseless loss of lives as a result of family vio- lence. We encourage anyone who is in need of crisis inter- vention to call The Crisis Center of Tampa Bay. They can be reached 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by dialing 2-1-1.”

His church in New York will have a service on Tuesday, Oc- tober 30, 2018, in the evening.
The final service will be held Saturday, November 3, 2018, 11 a. m. in Frostproof, FL (place to be announced).
A Wake Service will be held on Friday, November 2, 2018, 6-9 p. m. at First Baptist Hilltop Church, 200 Maxey Dr., Frost- proof, FL 33843. Epps Funeral Home of Lake Wales, FL will handle the Florida services.
In addition to his daughter, Rev. Dr. Lewter is survived by devoted wife, Mrs. Beverly A. Lewter, and the entire Lewter family.
