Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade Foundation’s Annual Fundraising Dinner, Gala Announced
The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade Foundation will host its third annual Black Tie Dinner and Gala, leading up to the 30th annual MLK Day Parade in Tampa. The theme for the 2019 Gala is “Purpose and Elegance,” acknowledging that there is important and meaningful work to do, especially in these uncertain times.
The Parade Foundation will continue its now estab- lished tradition of honoring local community heroes, those who have quietly, or not so quietly led the fight to im- prove lives in the community.
This year’s honorees in- clude: Dr. Glenn Dames, Pastor of Allen Temple A. M. E. Church; Ms. Yvette Lewis, President, Hillsbor- ough County Chapter NAACP; Mr. Ernest Coney, Jr., CEO of the CDC of Tampa, Inc.; and Mr.
ATTY. CAROLYN HOUSE STEWART ...Past International
President, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Marvin Knight, owner of Marvin’s Oriental Fish Com- pany in East Tampa. All have an outstanding, unselfish legacy of serving the commu- nity and we are pleased and excited to honor them as well as tell their stories.

In this year, when
women’s voices have been front and center in the fight for equality and respect, the committee has selected At- torney Carolyn House Stewart, past International President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and Dr. Paulette C. Walker, past National President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., as parade grand marshals. These are two former na- tional presidents of large and prestigious organizations, both from Tampa, and the Foundation wants to cele- brate them and their accom- plishments.
The Foundation will also announce this year’s scholar- ship winners and acknowl-
edge sponsors and partners who help make all of this pos- sible.
The 2019 MLK Parade Gala will be held Thursday, January 10, 2019, at TPepin’s Hospitality Centre, 4121 N. 50th Street, Tampa, FL. 33610. The Gala will be punc- tuated with live musical per- formances and moderated by Rod Carter of NBC affiliate, WFLA News Channel 8.
