   Friends Of C. Blythe Andrews Library To Host First Meeting

Members of the newly formed Friends Of C. Blythe Andrews Library will host their first meeting since the or- ganization’s inception. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, April 18th, from 6;30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at St. John Progressive M. B. Church, 2504 E. Chipco Av- enue.
Ms. Cherylene Levy,
first President of the organiza- tion, said the meeting is for the community to come out and be a part of the library. “The li- brary is going to be rebuilt and now is the time for members of the community to talk about what they want in it. We are willing to raise funds to pro- vide programs literally from A to Z (Arts & Crafts to Zipper- Zapper Sewing) to the mem- bers of the community.
“We want to invite you not to just share your opinions one time, but to be a part of the shaping of this library. Our membership will help raise funds so that we can provide the things that are important

to every member of the com- munity.”
“We are asking everyone to come out, become a member, and share your thoughts and ideas. adults and children,” she said.
Those attending the meet- ing will have an opportunity to win a $50 raffle ticket to Bern’s Steakhouse.

     Tampa Alumni Fraternity, Inc. Recipient Of Prestigious Awards

The Tampa Alumni Chap- ter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fra- ternity, Inc. was honored as the “Southern Province Chapter of the Year” last Saturday. The honor was be- stowed upon the fraternity at the 68th Southern Province Council Meeting in Mobile, AL.
In addition, the Chapter was also named “Reclama- tion Chapter of the Year” for the second con- secutive year. Both awards were given in the Large Chapter category.
The Chapter was recog- nized for its efforts in the Tampa Bay community in- cluding the MLK Day of Service Disaster Prepared- ness seminar, its work with its Kappa League mentoring program and partnership with the Links mentoring program among other proj- ects.

In addition to these two prestigious Chapter awards, two local individuals were also given special awards from Southern Province Polemarch Bertram K. Orum.
Cedric McCray and David Christian were given the Polemarch Award for their contributions to the province and the fraternity.
McCray said, It was a total surprise and I was hon- ored to be recognized by the Province Polemarch for my services. It was completely unexpected.”
Tampa Alumni Pole- march Robert W. Irvin said, “The brothers put in a herculean effort and it paid off. I am extremely proud of the hard work the brothers have put in and couldn’t be prouder of Tampa Alumni Chapter.”
The honors come at a spe- cial time for the Chapter as it prepares to celebrate its 90th Anniversary. Tampa Alumni will have a week filled with activities in June for the event.
It will also host the 69th Southern Province Council Meeting in Tampa in 2019. Before that, however, Irvin said there is more work to be done.
“We continue to strive to be an impactful part of our community. We will continue to work harder to do so,” Irvin said.

Meeting
Members of the Hillsbor- ough County Branch of the NAACP will host their April General Meeting on Thurs- day, April 19th, at 7 p.m. The meeting will take place at the Seminole Heights Library, 4711 E. Central Avenue, Tampa, 33603.
The guest speaker for this month is Hillsborough County State Attorney, An- drew Warren. Attorney War- ren will discuss issues that pertain to cases sent to his office to be considered for prosecution.
The meeting is open to the public and residents are encouraged to attend.
