New Appointees Chosen For USF Consolidation Task Force
 The University of South Florida System recently an- nounced the appointment of five new members of the USF Consolidation Plan- ning, Study and Implemen- tation Task Force.
As required by Florida law, USF Board of Trustees Chairman Brian Lamb appoints two members to the task force, while USF St. Petersburg Campus Board Chairman Stephanie Goforth, USF Sarasota- Manatee Campus Board Chairman Byron Shinn and the USF Alumni Associ- ation each appoint one member.

Chairman Goforth appointed Melissa Seixas. Seixas, vice president, gov- ernment and community re- lations for Duke Energy. Seixas earned a master’s degree in history from USF and served as co-chair of USFSP’s 50th anniversary celebration in 2015-16. She is currently board chair of the St. Pete Downtown Part- nership.
Chairman Shinn ap- pointed Frederick “Rick” Piccolo. Piccolo, presi- dent and CEO of Sarasota Bradenton International Airport. Piccolo was re- cently appointed to serve on the USF Sarasota-Manatee Campus Board and he is a past chair of the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Com- merce Board of Directors.
The USF Alumni Associ- ation appointed Kayla Rykiel. Rykiel is an Hon- ors College student at USF pursuing a bachelor’s de- gree in biomedical sciences (by the USF Alumni Associ- ation). Rykiel is the founder of Partners in Health, a USF student or- ganization, and serves as di- rector of the TEDxUSF program. She’s been in- volved in research projects related to infectious dis- eases, drug development to prevent malaria and food insecurity among teenagers.
The Florida Board of Governors previously ap- pointed Dr. Jonathan Ellen, president and vice dean of Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, as chair of the

task force, which will de- velop recommendations to phase out the separate ac- creditations of USF St. Pe- tersburg and USF Sarasota-Manatee.
USF System President Judy Genshaft, USFSP Interim Regional Chancel- lor Martin Tadlock and USFSM Regional Chancel- lor Karen Holbook will also serve on the task force.
The Florida Senate Pres- ident and Speaker of the House will each appoint two members.
The 13-member task force will submit recom- mendations to the USF Board of Trustees by Feb. 15, 2019. The group’s re- sponsibilities include iden- tification of specific degrees in programs of strategic sig- nificance, including health- care, science, technology, engineering and mathemat- ics and other program pri- orities to be offered.
The first meeting of the task force is scheduled for 4 p.m. on April 25th at the USFSP Student Center. In addition, students and fac- ulty will be invited to partic- ipate in town hall meetings this fall.
After considering the recommendations of the task force, the USF Board of Trustees must adopt and submit an implementation plan to the Board of Gover- nors no later than March 15, 2019.
The USF System is re- quired to consolidate into a single, unified accreditation before July 1, 2020. During the transition, each institu- tion will remain accredited.
