All About You! Local
Comedian Loses Competition, But Is Still A Winner
BY GWEN HAYES Sentinel Editor
Alonzo Brock has been doing comedy for the past 2 years. He hasn’t done much on the local scene, but he’s working his way to appearing before his hometown. He has however, performed in many comedy venues across Florida and Georgia.
Just recently, Brock, whose stage name is Zoe- boe69, participated in a March Madness competition at the Comedy Zone in Char- lotte, NC. He made it to the semi-finals, but since the au- dience chose the winner, he lost.
“I thought I did pretty good. I felt honored to reach the semi-finals, since I did not know anyone there that I could influence to vote for me,” he jokingly said. As the

runner-up, Zoeboe69 gets to return to the Comedy Zone to do a guest appearance in May.
That competition has opened other doors for him. He has competed in Atlanta, GA, Orlando and Las Vegas, NV. The last Saturday of the month he performs in Lake- land. Since he doesn’t do many shows in Tampa, he’s excited about showcasing his talents at this year’s June- teenth Celebration.
Zoeboe69 shares his comedy skits with Joseph Hart.
Although he’s done stand- up comedy for a short time, Zoeboe69 has a comedy CD, “Ya Mad Bih,” and a comedy video, “Jeans So Tight.”

HAPPY BIRTHDAY
MARVIN AND LISA
Happy birthday to my wife, my forever. Without you, I’m nothing, with you I’m something,
Together, we’re everything.
April Is National Poetry Month
National Poetry Month was inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996. Over the years, it has become the largest literary celebration in the world with schools, publishers, libraries, booksellers, and poets celebrating poetry’s vital place in our culture.
The Chosen Ones
Call us by our African names, Not the ones we were given.
We need to feel at home,
we need our souls to be risen. We are foreigners to a place,
a place we don’t belong.
We were invaded and shipped, million of miles from home. Though I never visited,
but it’s a part of me.
So when you glance at my image, It’s Africa’s face you see.
Yes, we are the chosen ones,
The ones the book speaks about.
I know we will rise again.
Ase! let us shout.
Oh yes we are the original Israelites, and the Hebrews, too.
It’s about time the truth is revealed, too, my brother and sisters, too.
Call us by our African names, not the ones we were given. we need to feel at home, we need our souls to be risen.
