Local Birthday Greeting
Tampa Matriarch To Celebrate 109th Birthday
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
Many historical events have taken place in the last 100 years. Some of those events made the pages of the history books.
But, there is a small minor- ity of individuals who can say that they were alive when such events took place. And one of those individuals is Mrs. Rosa Lee Marshall, who celebrated her 109th birthday on September 10th.
This weekend, Mrs. Mar- shall will celebrate her birth- day with family and friends, her niece, Mrs. Hanna “Pat” Johnson said.
MRS. ROSA LEE MARSHALL
... Turned 109 on Tues- day, September 10th
A native of Ocala, Mrs.
Marshall moved to Tampa as a child. She worked as a house- keeper for several years before retiring.
She is a widow and her only son passed away several years ago. She was never a grandmother, but she is the auntie to several nieces and nephews and has filled the role of grandmother to many of her relatives.
Mrs. Marshall never learned to drive and walked everywhere. But, a few years ago, she fell while going to the store and broke her hip. Since that time she has had a care- giver live with her.
She is in relatively good health, but does have a hearing problem. Mrs. Johnson said her aunt sometimes forgets their names, but she knows who her relatives are when she is talking to them.
She was an active member of Mount Calvary Seventh Day Adventist Church, but usually attends St. John Progressive Missionary Baptist Church with Mrs. Johnson.
“Sometimes, I take her to Mount Calvary, but she always cries. She remembers that was her sister’s church and they were very close. So most of the time, I just take her to church with me,” Mrs. Johnson said.
Happy 80th Birthday To Our Mother
CLEO J. LOWE September 12, 1939
Mom,
You have been a true example to us, of what the word,
“Mother,” means. You always gave us so much, and never asked for anything in return. We are grateful to God many times over, for blessing us with a Mother like you.
We thank you for being hard on us when we needed it! We truly understand now all of the lessons that you taught us on how to be mothers to our children, and how to give them uncondi- tional love.
Mom, you will forever be our HERO.
Your daughters and sons-in-law: Kathy and Ron Derr; Gail and Archie Harrison; Lavonne and the late David An- derson; the late Fredricka Lowe-Jackson; Karen and Leonard Hart; grandchildren, great grandchildren, great, great grandchildren, and the rest of the family.
