Help Victims Of Human Trafficking
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
Currently, an estimated 300,000 American children fall victim to human traffick- ing in the United States. And the Tampa Bay Area is no ex- ception.
On any given week, an adult is taken into custody for preying on children. The Tampa Bay Area’s Safe House program provides assistance to the children and teenagers after they have been rescued.
The 24-hour not-for- profit organization provides refuge for these young vic- tims. It offers housing, cloth- ing, food, and in-home schooling for children as young as 12 years of age. However, they must rely on community support to re- main in existence.
In response to this need, Redefining Refuge will host its 4th Annual fundraiser on Saturday, April 25th, from 7 to 9 p.m. The event will take place at Downtown Tampa’s historic Firefighters Museum. The event is entitled “Bubbles & Butterflies” Champagne Gala.
The evening will include live music, exclusive cham- pagnes, a bourbon bar, and heavy hors d’oeuvres.

Ms. Natasha Nasci- mento, Founding Executive Director of Redefining Refuge said, “The basic premise of our Program is to salvage childhoods, and restore to these innocent children what was formerly stolen from them. The Tampa Commu- nity has been so good to us and continues to play a vital role in this restoration process.”
She further stated that the organization came into exis- tence in 2010 and was in- spired to take an active role in helping children who had been rescued from the bondages of Human Traffick- ing.
