Atlanta Developer Buys 70 Acres Parcel In East Tampa
In an area of Eastern Hills- borough County already packed with industrial parks, an Atlanta-based developer has purchased 70 acres be- tween Columbus Drive and Broadway to build an Indus- trial Park.
The 70 acres stretch from Highway 301 East, almost reaching Falkenburg Road.
McDonald Development Company paid $7 million for the land in a deal that closed Monday.
In 2004, the land was pur- chased by IDI Services, also out of Atlanta, Georgia. A team of brokers represented IDI in
the transaction.
McDonald Development
Company Chief Operating Of- ficer Austin McDonald said they are evaluating how big the first phase will be, and he plans to break ground by the end of the year.
Large industrial parks like the one proposed could create hundreds of jobs when big warehouse users move in.
McDonald is still evaluat- ing a name for the industrial park and no marketing has started at this time.
The industrial park will ac- commodate large warehouse users in the 300,000-square-
foot and up range, as well as smaller users in the 10,000 to 50,000 range in industrial buildings that typically come with more office space.
Because of the close prox- imity to I-4, and Polk County, McDonald thinks the acquisi- tion is a gift, and he feels his competition will be limited, be- cause there’s far less available land in East Tampa than Polk County.
McDonald’s company has been in Orlando for 10 years and started looking at Polk County and Tampa during that time to build another indus- trial park.
