  Retired Teacher Killed In Accident Wore Hearing Aids
 On June 26th, a woman was hit by a City of Tampa ve- hicle as she attempted to cross the street. The victim was a 65-year-old Davis Is- land resident and was a re- tired Hillsborough County Public School teacher.
Ms. Marcia Woodside Rivers taught Business Technology at Memorial Middle School. She retired in 2016.
According to police, at ap- proximately 9:15 a.m., Ms. Rivers was struck by a garbage truck as it backed up. The accident took place at the intersection of Davis Blvd., at Aegean Drive, on Davis Is- land. Ms. Rivers was dragged 20 to 30 feet and

died at the scene.
The driver of the City of
Tampa Solid Waste truck has been identified as 49-year- old Jarvis Mercer, of Tampa. He has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
Detectives said Mercer will not face any criminal charges in the accident. How- ever, he is expected to receive a civil citation in connection with the death.
Initial reports stated that Ms. Rivers was wearing earplugs at the time of the ac- cident. However, Tampa Po- lice disputed that claim. It has since been learned that she was wearing hearing aids.
The investigation contin- ues.
      Deadline To Register For Primary Election Approaches

Supervisors of Elections in the Tampa Bay area are working together to help citi- zens get ready to vote in the upcoming 2018 elections. It's especially important to un- derstand that voters may only vote in the county in which they live, and that counties in Florida hold Early Voting for different periods of time de- pending on what works best in each county.
However, the deadline to register to vote or to change your party affilia- tion is Monday, July 30, 2018.
All voters, whether affili- ated with a party or not, will vote on nonpartisan issues and races, such as the mem- bers of the Hillsborough County School Board. In some instances, the winner of the office will be determined in the Primary Election.
Early Voting
Early Voting in Hillsbor-
ough County will begin on Monday, August 13th and end on Sunday, August 26th, at 6 p.m. Voters will need current and valid photo and signature ID. Acceptable forms of identification in- clude: FL Driver License, FL ID Card (issued by DHSMV), US Passport, Debit or Credit Card, Military ID, Student ID, Retirement Center ID, Neighborhood Association ID, Public Assistance ID, Vet- eran Health ID (issued by VA), Concealed Weapon Li- cense (issued pursuant to s. 790.06), or Government Em- ployee ID. If you do not bring ID, you may vote a provi- sional ballot.
During Early Voting, bal- lots can be cast at the follow- ing locations: Fred B. Karl County Center, Robert L. Gilder Elections Service Cen- ter, Bloomingdale Regional Public Library, or Bruton Me- morial Library.
Other locations are: Jan Kaminis Platt Regional Li- brary, Jimmie B. Keel Re-
gional Library, Keystone Recreation Center, New Tampa Regional Library, North Tampa Branch Li- brary, Riverview Branch Li- brary, SouthShore Regional Library, Temple Terrace Pub- lic Library, Town N Country Regional Public Library, Maureen B. Gauzza Public Li- brary (formerly called Upper Tampa Bay), and the West Tampa Branch Library.
New locations this year include: Cyrus Greene Community Cen- ter, Northdale Recre- ation Center, Port Tampa Community Center, and Valrico Recreation Cen- ter.
Voters who choose to Vote By Mail must remember to sign their ballots before mailing them.
Voting On Election Day
Individuals who choose to vote on Election Day will be required to vote at his or her assigned voting location. The polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
