Retired Rattlers Prepare To Celebrate 21st Anniversary
BY GWEN HAYES Sentinel Editor
The Florida A & M University Tampa Chapter Retired Rattler Trailblazers are preparing to celebrate their 21st anniversary over the next 4 months during their regular meetings, starting in August.
Mary White Darby organized the Re- tired Rattlers in 1997 after teaching for 41 years. She spent 6 years in Polk County, 3 years in Brevard County and 32 years in Hillsborough County.
After retiring, Mrs. Darby was not one of those who wanted to sit around and do next to nothing. Having been a devout sup- porter of the Rattlers, retirement gave her an opportunity to do even more with and for her alma mater.
At the same time, she believed that gath- ering with other Rattlers would keep all of them active as well as boost their morale.
“Dr. James H. Ammons, the 10th President of our illustrious FAMU, gave us the name Trailblazer, because we were the only Retired Rattler Team,” she said.
She’s asking other Retired Rattlers to come out and help celebrate the 21st An-

niversary. Each month’s celebration will rec- ognize a particular profession. The meetings will be held at The Open Café, 11 a. m. – 2 p. m., and each Rattler will be responsible for their meal. The anniversary menu each month will be: chicken, fish, potato salad,
green beans, rolls, cake and lemonade.
The meetings will be held on August 10th, September 14th, October 12th and No- vember 9, 2018. FAMUans are asked to wear orange and/or green.
The special guests in Au- gust will be FAMU’s Hills- borough County Elementary Education Teachers. Please RSVP by July 31, 2018, if you plan to attend.
The September guests will
be FAMU’s Hillsborough
County Secondary Education
Teachers. RSVP by August
31st.
October’s special guests will be FAMU’s Hillsborough County College Level Former Teachers. RSVP for this meeting by September 30th.
The 21st Anniversary Spe- cial Day is November 9th. Guests for that meeting will be FAMU’s Hillsborough County and other Profes- sionals. Please RSVP by Oc- tober 30th.
Also, if you have a FAMU Rattler tag on your vehicle, you are invited to come and support the FAMU Retired Rattler Trailblazers’ 21st An- niversary. Please wear your orange and/or green.
