Medical Experts Worry About Testing DNA To Reunite Families
Trump Nominates Brett Kavanaugh To Supreme Court
WASHINGTON — Pres- ident Donald Trump is nominating influential con- servative Judge Brett Ka- vanaugh to the Supreme Court as he seeks to shift the nation’s highest court further to the right.
Trump chose the 53- year-old federal appellate judge for the seat opened up by the retirement of Justice Anthony Kennedy. Kava- naugh would be less recep- tive to abortion and gay rights than Kennedy was.
Kavanaugh is Trump’s second high court pick after Justice Neil Gorsuch. Ka- vanaugh and Gorsuch served as law clerks to Kennedy at the same time early in their legal careers.

Kavanaugh is a longtime fixture of the Republican legal establishment. He has been a judge on the federal appeals court in Washington since 2006. He also was a key
aide to Kenneth Starr dur- ing his investigation of Pres- ident Bill Clinton and worked in the White House during George W. Bush’s presidency.
WASHINGTON — The Trump administration’s use of DNA testing to match mi- grant children separated from their parents is justifi- able as a last resort, medical experts say, but raises a host of ethical problems.
That includes the risk of damaging the family fabric by revealing that an adult thought to be the biological parent really is not.
A federal judge in Califor- nia on Tuesday said DNA
testing should be limited to cases in which the parent- child relationship can’t be es- tablished through documents such as birth cer- tificates and passports.
The government had ar- gued that DNA testing is faster than authenticating documents, and protects children — especially the youngest — from being handed to someone who may not be their biological parent.
California Prosecutor Asks Why Someone Hasn’t Shot Maxine Waters Yet, Insults Michelle Obama
A prosecutor in the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office is experi- encing a tidal wave of back- lash after a series of bigoted posts and comments he made online about First Lady Michelle Obama and Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) came to light.
According to The Sun, people are calling for Deputy District Attorney Michael Selyem, whose been part of the DA’s office for 12 years, to be fired over the comments made on Facebook.
The prosecutor who spe- cializes in gang violence, at- tacked Waters online, writing: “Being a loud- mouthed c*nt in the ghetto you would think someone would have shot this b*tch by now ...”
In an online argument with someone over the police
Deputy District Attorney Michael Selyem and Rep. Maxine Wa- ters.
shooting of a civilian, Se- lyem wrote, “That s—bag got exactly what he deserved. ... You reap what you sow. And by the way go f— yourself you liberal s—bag.”
And then Selyem posted a photoshopped picture of Michelle Obama holding
up a sign saying, “Trump grabbed my penis.”
The DA’s office has al- legedly been aware of Se- lyem’s racially-biased and misogynistic outbursts since late June, and the situation is currently undergoing an in- ternal review.
Trump Committed To Defunding Obamacare, Premiums Expected To Skyrocket In 2019
President Donald Trump still plans to defund Obamacare.
The Trump administration is withholding billions of dol- lars in Obamacare payments to health insurers, a move that could cause premiums to rise in 2019.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services said in a statement on Saturday that it would stop payments after a federal district court in New Mexico decided in February the payments were based on flawed rules.
“CMS is seeking a quick res- olution to the legal issues raised and will inform stake- holders of any update to the status of collections or pay- ments at an appropriate future date,” the agency said in a statement.
The GOP’s commitment to repealing Obamacare without a replacement earlier this year didn’t work so now they’ve taken aim at the Affordable Care Act by defunding the pro- gram.
Reports state that the Centers
for Medicare & Medicaid Serv- ices on Saturday said it was putting “on hold” its “risk ad- justment” program. The pay- ments protect insurers from big losses.
The health plans pay into a pool — this doesn’t involve tax dollars — and funds are trans- ferred to insurers that ended up with many high cost pa- tients, according to reports. In 2017, $10.4 billion was in- volved.
The Trump administration is causing an unnecessary “new market disruption.”
“This decision comes at a critical time when insurance providers are developing pre- miums for 2019 and states are reviewing rates,” the trade group America’s Health Insur- ance Plans said in a statement.
“This decision will have serious consequences for mil- lions of consumers who get their coverage through small businesses or buy coverage on their own.”
