Tampa Community Urged To Prepare For 2nd Annual Girls Summit
Committee Member Talks About Success Of Fundraiser
VIVIAN HEYWARD
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
The name of Ms. Vivian Heyward is well known throughout the community. For many years, she has ded- icated herself to worthwhile causes.
As a member of the Posi- tive Images Committee, she is inviting members of the com- munity to once again partici- pate in a fundraiser to benefit St. Peter Claver Catholic School. “This is a call to mem- bers of the community as well as former students and alumni of St. Peter Claver. We are inviting them to come and help out for a worthy cause,” Ms. Heyward said.
Positive Images hosted a
fundraiser to provide assis- tance to the school in October 2015. The fundraiser was en- titled “Jazz’n At The Ritz,” and the organization raised $60,000. All of the proceeds benefitted the school.
Now, in response to popu- lar demand, the organization will host another event again on Sunday, April 30th, at The Ritz Ybor, 1503 E. 7th Avenue, from 5:30 p.m. until 9 p.m.
Ms. Heyward further said, “We were about to raise $60,000. Part of that money was used to build a pavilion to protect the children and staff from inclement weather dur- ing their outside activities.
“This year, we want to raise more to support the in- creased number of students at the school. Many of the children need school sup- plies, and help with tuition. The money can also be used to provide scholarships for low-income students.”
St. Peter Claver Catholic School has been in existence for more than 100 years. It has historically educated African American students in elementary school.
