BY GWEN HAYES Sentinel Editor
10 scholarships are available on a first-come, first-served basis for residents of 33612 and 33613 zip codes.
Two longtime friends and now busi- ness partners are reaching out to resi- dents in 2 zip code communities with hopes of helping them to get started in a career.
Ellisa Durrant and Jaclyn Kelly are best friends who met in college over 13 years ago.
“We received our Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees together and we even vacationed together,” explained Ms. Kelly.
This is where Certified Nursing As- sistant Technical became a vision,

while they were on a trip back from Aruba. Elissa said to Jaclyn that they
should start a C. N. A school and Ja- clyn said ok!
“We began thinking of names and Jaclyn mentioned C. N. A. Technical and that’s when it became reality!,” Elissa said. February 2019 was their one- year anniversary.
Since the opening of the school, over 100 students have completed their Certified Nursing Assistant Certifica- tion. C. N. A. Technical Center trains nursing assistants to enter the health field.
“Here at C. N. A. Technical we teach technical skills, compassion and bed- side manners, which is needed for peo- ple who are geriatric or have a need for high acuity of care. We don’t just teach compassion we live it that’s why we have a learn-to-earn program helping students in lower income areas get their certification.
In an effort to give back to the com- munity the ladies, with the assistance of Tampa Housing Authority and other local companies, offer scholarships.
“We have 10 scholarships available for students residing in 33612 and 33613 zip codes to receive their certi- fied nursing assistant certification. Stu- dents would need to go online to fill out an inquiry form. The deadline is August 15, 2019 so that they can get started in the fall,” Jaclyn explained. The schol- arships are for students 18 years old and older. Training takes about 6 weeks.
C. N. A. Technical programs consist of certified nursing assistant, home health aide, phlebotomy programs and CPR Courses.
