In a move that took 50 years to happen, Adrian Anthony has been named to lead Hudson Elementary in Pasco County.
Mr. Anthony is the first African American man to hold a position of leadership in the Pasco County School District.
Anthony was an assistant princi- pal and Title I specialist at Sunlake High from 2016 to 2019. Before his assignments in Pasco County, Mr. Anthony served as an assistant prin- cipal and Title I specialist in Pinellas County.
Title I is the largest federal aid program for public schools in the United States. It is part of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001
ADRIAN ANTHONY ...Principal of Hudson Elementary
(NCLB), but originated from the Ele- mentary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) as part of Presi-
dent Lyndon B. Johnson's “War on Poverty.”
Pasco County Superintendent Kurt Browning has been quoted as saying that Mr. Anthony’s ability and experience was key to his ap- pointment.
Principal Anthony believes in a culture of positivity. He believes that daily praise of staff and children for all achievements, no matter how small, is the key towards engagement. He describes the school as a beacon of light for disadvantaged children, es- pecially those that may be homeless or in foster care.
Anthony graduated from a Hills- borough County High School. He graduated with a MBA from Florida A& M University and is in the final stage of his doctoral program at the University of South Florida. He is
keenly interested and has extensively studied Pedagogy, the science of teaching intentionally in a results-dri- ven manner.
Superintendent Browning also quoted Anthony’s experience in turning around schools as a factor in his hiring.
Mr. Anthony is married to Rayda Anthony, and they are par- ents to 6 children. He is the son of Ken Anthony, owner of Ken An- thony Insurance, and Yolanda Amos, Property Manager of Tampa Park Apartments.
Mrs. Amos is especially proud of her son and says, “My son has always been a hard worker. Education is his passion and he strives to make a pos- itive difference in peoples’ lives, espe- cially young people. I am a proud mom!”
