White House
Joe Biden Earned More Than $15M After Leaving White House
WASHINGTON — Joe Biden released federal tax returns and a financial dis- closure Tuesday showing that he and his wife, Jill, took in more than $15 million since leaving the Obama White House — newfound affluence that catapulted the Demo- cratic presidential candidate into millionaire status and outdated the humble nick- name he has used throughout his political career.
Long fond of describing himself as “Middle Class Joe” while he took in little more than his government salary, the former vice presi- dent has capitalized on a lu- crative $8 million book deal and constant publicity tour- ing that brought in more than $4 million over 50 appear- ances across the country.
Now seeking the 2020 Democratic nomination for president, Biden stressed his

working-class roots during his first campaign speech in Pittsburgh last April, telling an audience filled with union workers and officials that he would restore the middle class, strengthen unions and bolster stagnant wages.
Top Dems Invite Women’s World Cup Soccer Champs To Capitol
WASHINGTON — The World Cup champion U.S. women’s soccer team is being invited to the Capitol, Con- gress’ top Democrats said Monday.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wrote to colleagues Monday that “by popular de- mand on both sides of the aisle,” she has invited the players to the Capitol “to cel- ebrate their inspiring vic- tory.” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said he, too, has invited them as he lauded them on the Senate floor for their “sustained level of excellence.”
There was no immediate indication of when or if a visit might occur. Alex Morgan, who scored six goals in the tournament, said the players hadn’t discussed the invita- tion.
“Of course, it would be great to do something as a

team together like that, but we haven’t even had time to talk about that,” she told re- porters in New York on Mon- day.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., also praised the team’s “grit and teamwork and talent.”
The U. S. team has cap-
tured the last two World Cups and has won four, more than any other country.
Many players have been leading advocates of gender equity. Star Megan Rapi- noe has said she would not visit the White House if in- vited by President Donald Trump.
Billionaire H. Ross Perot Dead At 89
DALLAS — H. Ross Perot, the colorful, self- made Texas billionaire who rose from a childhood of De- pression-era poverty and twice mounted outsider cam- paigns for president, has died. He was 89.
The cause of death was leukemia, a family spokesman said Tuesday.
Perot, whose 19% of the vote in 1992 stands among the best showings by an inde- pendent candidate in the past century, died early Tuesday at his home in Dallas sur- rounded by his family, said the spokesman, James Fuller.
As a boy in Texarkana, Texas, Perot delivered news- papers from the back of a pony. He earned his billions in a more modern fashion, however. After attending the U. S. Naval Academy and be-

coming a salesman for IBM, he went his own way — creat- ing and building Electronic Data Systems Corp., which helped other companies man- age their computer networks.
Michelle Obama Wore Her Natural Curls And Got Ombré Highlights
Over the weekend, Michelle Obama took the stage at the Essence Festival in New Orleans to have a con- versation with Gayle King about her best-selling book, Becoming, family, health, and more.
While the audience was here for Obama's pearls of wisdom and her navy se- quined jumpsuit, her fans were even more excited about the former first lady's new hairstyle.
Instead of her signature smooth, shoulder-length dark waves, Obama wore her hair in her natural curls and added some fresh golden ombré highlights to her look. Her roots are still dark and grow lighter towards the ends.
She shared her Essence Festival experience in Insta- gram, including her new hair look. Michelle wrote: "What a great night here in New Or- leans celebrating 25 years of #EssenceFest and #Black-

GirlMagic. Thanks to @GayleKing for sitting down with me to talk about all things #IAmBecoming, rela- tionships and just how hard it is as women to put ourselves first."
Fans were loving it in the comments.
"We stan a flotus with natural curls," wrote one commenter. "These natural kinks and coils blessing my feed are all I need to get by!!!!!!!!" wrote another.
Obama doesn't often wear her hair like this, but she was seen with her natural curls while on a family vaca- tion in France last month. She spoke out in Essence last year about the realities of being a Black woman in poli- tics, including how she adopted a "hair strategy" while in the White House.
Obama looks gorgeous with her natural curls, and we hope to see more of this look throughout the summer.
