City Of Tampa Black History Committee Black History Celebration Set For February 28th

The City of Tampa Black History Commit- tee will host its 29th Annual Black History Celebration Tuesday, February 28, 2017, 11 a. m. at the Tampa Convention Center, 333 S. Franklin Street, Tampa, 33602 in Ball- rooms C & D.
The theme this year is “Unity in the Com- munity: Joining Hands and Joining Hearts.”

Chosen as the keynote speaker is The Honorable Arthenia Joyner, former Florida State Senator.

“This event as always is free and open to the public. There will be a small parking fee for the garage. After the celebration, there will be a
room with vendors from vari- ous organizations and authors from the Tampa Bay area,” she continued.
The event will also be the kick-off of the scholarships for the 2017 school year. Anyone that has questions in reference to the scholarships can call Cedric McCray at 274-8189.
The 2nd Annual Golf Tour-
nament will be on April 29, 2017 at Rogers Park Golf Course. For additional infor- mation, contact Frank Woodard at (813) 274-8549 or Mark Wilfalk at (813) 348-1153. Those interested will be able to sign up for the tournament and get info on the scholarships at the cele- bration.
Black History Celebrated At The Florida State Fair
From February 9-20, twenty-seven displays, including nineteen from local schools, will honor African-American leaders at the Florida State Fair. The displays will include a collection of videos depicting African American leaders and their contributions for equality in Tampa, news clippings from the historical sit-ins for equality in downtown Tampa, and a pictorial display of the life and contributions of a former School Board member and local educators.
The Black History Month display booths are located adjacent to the annual school exhibits in the Florida Center. The Florida Center is open until 9 p. m. each night of the fair.
