SHAWNOD BROWN
A 26-year-old man was ar- rested Sunday after being in- volved in a traffic accident. The accident took place at 94th Av- enue and 52nd Street, in Pinellas Park.
According to police, officers responded to the location in ref- erence to a traffic accident. Dur- ing the investigation, Shawnod Brown, the driver of one of the vehicles reportedly exhibited signs of impairment.
Brown reportedly failed the Field Sobriety Evaluations, and was taken into custody. Brown was charged with DUI. He was also charged with child neglect after they observed two chil- dren, ages 6 years and 7 months, in Brown’s car.
Neither of the children were injured and were turned over to a family member. Others re- ported minor injuries.
A 39-year-old woman has been indicted in connection with a drug-related death. The indictment was unsealed last week by the U. S. Attorney’s Of- fice, Middle District of Florida.
Ms. Heidi Kalous, of Dunedin, was indicted on the charges of conspiring to distrib- ute a substance that contained a mixture of heroin and fentanyl. She was also charged with dis- tributing a substance that con- tained a mixture of heroin, fentanyl, and acetyl fentanyl, causing death.
According to court docu- ments, beginning no later than June 5, 2019, and continuing through June 28, 2019, Ms. Kalous conspired with others to possess and distribute heroin, fentanyl, and acetyl fen- tanyl.
On June 5, 2019, she al- legedly distributed two bags
containing a
mixture of
heroin and
fentanyl to
an individ-
ual. The in-
dividual
injected
himself with
the sub-
stance from
the bags and died. A medical autopsy revealed that the cause of death was an accidental over- dose caused by fentanyl toxicity.
Between June 5 and June 27, 2019, Ms. Kalous is said to have continued to distribute narcotics, including crack co- caine, fentanyl, acetyl fentanyl and heroin, out of a motel in Dunedin.
If convicted, Ms. Kalous faces a minimum mandatory penalty of 20 years in federal prison.
HEIDI KALOUS
Last week, a Pasco County woman was sentenced to fed- eral prison for cyberstalking and making online threats. She pleaded guilty on December 21, 2018.
District Judge Elizabeth A. Kovachevich sentenced Ms. Tammy Marie Steffen, 37, to four years and nine months in federal prison for cy- berstalking and sending threat- ening communications online.
According to the plea agree- ment, from at least August 2016 and continuing through July 2018, Ms. Steffen en- gaged in a course of conduct with the intent to harass or in- timidate six victims. Specifi- cally, she cyberstalked, harassed, and threatened sev- eral of her former colleagues and associates through re- peated emails, phone calls, text messages, and social media messages using numerous phone numbers and accounts.
So far, the FBI has identi-
fied at least 369 Insta- gram ac- counts and 18 email ac- counts that Ms. Stef- fen had cre- ated and used.
In one instance,
TAMMY MARIE STEFFEN
Ms. Steffen threatened to “slice [the victim] up into little pieces,” and told another victim that, “all hell is gonna rain fire down on your world like never seen before.” She then sent a picture of a female holding two knives, with a caption that read, “I’m coming.”
In addition to the threaten- ing messages online, Ms. Stef- fen made countless “spoofed” phone calls to the victims, using voice-disguising software to mask her identity when she re- peatedly called the victims at their homes and businesses.
