Designer Kate Spade Commits Suicide
Designer Kate Spade was found dead Tuesday in what police characterized as a sui- cide by hanging.
A contemporary designer of the 1990s, she and her hus- band built a brand on the ap- peal of clothes and accessories that made shop- pers happy.
Mrs. Spade, 55, was dis- covered dead at her Manhat- tan apartment, where she had hanged herself in her bedroom, the police said.

The New York police chief
of detectives, Dermot F. Shea, said that the death “appears at this point in time to be a tragic case of apparent suicide,” he said. “It is early in the investigation.”
A police official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said that a note found at the scene addressed to Ms. Spade’s 13-year-old daughter indicated, among other things, that what had happened was not the child’s fault.
On the 14th anniversary of former president Ronald Reagan’s death, his daugh- ter, Patti Davis wrote an op- ed for The Washington Post detailing what she thinks would be her father’s criticism of Donald Trump.
“People often ask me what he would say if he were here now. Sometimes I’m a bit glib in re- sponse, pointing out that he’d be 107 years old. Other times, I simply say he’d be pretty horri- fied at where we’ve come to, Davis wrote.”
Davis wrote in length about the president’s language warn- ing citizens of its divisive tone.
“He would plead with Amer- icans to recognize that the caustic, destructive language
emanating from our current president is sullying the dream that America once was,” Davis wrote.
Davis said her father would be especially concerned with Trump’s consistent attacks of the media, and his seemingly off the cuff foreign policy. Davis also thinks her Republi- can father would have reserva- tions about Congress’ dealings with Trump.
“He would be appalled and heartbroken at a Congress that refuses to stand up to a Presi- dent who not only seems igno- rant of the Constitution, but who also attempts at every turn to dismantle and mock our sys- tem of checks and balances,” she wrote.
Former President Barack Obama will headline a high- dollar fundraiser for the Democratic National Com- mittee on June 28, hoping to give a boost to the party com- mittee in advance of the midterms.
The event is being billed as a gala dinner, with tickets starting at $2,700-per-per- son.
The highest priced ticket goes to those who write checks or raise $100,000, which includes premium seating, a photo reception,

host reception, membership
in the DNC finance commit- tee and admission to two other “marquee events,” ac- cording to an invite.
The location was not dis- closed, and there is no word yet on plans for other events during Mr. Obama’s visit.
Mr. Obama was in Los Angeles for a fundraiser in May for Sen. Claire Mc- Caskill (D-Mo.) at the home of Jeff Shell, with other co- hosts including J.J. Abrams, Jeffrey Katzen- berg and Steven Spiel- berg.

Man Kneels, Another Shouts At Event Trump Hosted To Replace Cancelled Philadelphia Eagles’ Visit
Donald Trump’s at- tempt to show up the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles by holding a hastily- arranged “Celebration of America” event in lieu of the team’s canceled visit back- fired bigly after he appeared not to know the words to “God Bless America,” and two people took a knee as the United States Marine Band played the national anthem.
The unidentified kneeler was recorded by a journalist from Sweden’s national pub- lic television broadcaster, who later attempted to inter- view the protester, but the man didn’t want to talk and left after the anthem ended.
Shortly after, a CNN re- porter posted a picture of an- other attendee who knelt during the Star Spangled Banner and also yelled at Trump: “Stop hiding behind

the armed services and the national anthem. Let’s hear it for the Eagles!”
After the anthem, Trump delivered a three-minute ad- dress about the importance of standing for the national anthem and didn’t mention the Eagles or NFL once.
According to reports, not one Eagle player took a knee or stayed in the locker room during the national anthem last season.
Also, a reporter pointed out that the “Eagles fans” in- vited by Trump for the occa- sion were mostly White House interns.
In conclusion, Trump cancelled the Eagles visit to avoid the embarrassment of less than ten players planning to attend by disinviting the entire team, claiming it was due to the national anthem controversy...only for his “pa- triotic” replacement spectacle to include two people who knelt during the anthem, his own struggle to remember the words to “God Bless America,” and White House interns reportedly dressed in Eagles gear to portray real fans.
President Donald Trump has pardoned Alice Marie Johnson, the great- grandmother whom Kim Kar- dashian West advocated for in a White House meeting last week.
The White House announced the news in a statement on Wednesday, saying: “Ms. Johnson has accepted re- sponsibility for her past behav- ior and has been a model prisoner over the past two decades.”
“While this Administration will always be very tough on crime, it believes that those who have paid their debt to so- ciety and worked hard to better
themselves while in prison de- serve a second chance,” the statement added.
The pardon comes after Kardashian West met with the president at the White House last week to plead for clemency for Johnson, a first-time nonviolent drug of- fender who in 1996 was given a life sentence without parole.
The 63-year-old great- grandmother — whose case has been spotlighted recently by Kim Kardashian West and Mic’s Opinion desk — will be released from federal prison in Aliceville, Alabama, where she has been serving her sen- tence since 1996.
