Andy Reid Gets His 222nd
Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes Becomes Just Third African American QB To Win Super Bowl
PATRICK MAHOMES
There was a time when there were no African Ameri- can quarterbacks starting in the NFL.
But in recent years, that's changed drastically.
Super Bowl LIV is the lat- est example of the shift. Fif- teen of the last 16 Super Bowls have featured an AFC team led by Tom Brady, Ben Roeth- lisberger, or Peyton Man- ning at the quarterback position.
But not this year. Reigning league MVP Patrick Ma- homes led the Chiefs against the 49ers on Sunday.
Mahomes was just the seventh African American quarterback to start in a Super Bowl and is now the third to win it, joining Doug Williams (with Washington in Super Bowl XXII in 1988) and Russell Wilson (Seattle, Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014).
His meteoric rise, perhaps, is indicative of a new era in the NFL at the quarterback posi- tion.
'The year of the Black Quarterback'
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft was Kyler Murray. Jameis Winston led the league in passing yards this season, with 5,109. Right behind him was Dak Prescott, with 4,902.
Lamar Jackson was unanimously voted NFL MVP at NFL Honors, becoming the second-youngest person to re- ceive the award.
And Jackson wasn't the only African American quar- terback in the conversation. Wilson, Mahomes and De- shaun Watson were some of the top candidates. They all led their teams to the divisional round of this season's playoffs.
And they could dominate the NFL for years to come.

BRIANNA
This week, it’s Brianna’s turn to be our Beauty Unlimited fea- ture, and we welcome her with enthusiasm and open arms. Bri- anna understands what it takes to be successful, and although she’s not going to compromise on anything she feels she deserves, she’s willing to work hard to reach her goals. A woman with strength and intelligence can sometimes be intimidating, but Bri- anna doesn’t allow that to change who she is. Congratulations to Brionna as this week’s Beauty Unlimited feature.
  Career Win And His
1st Super Bowl Victory
Andy Reid's 222nd win turned out to be the biggest of his 21-year NFL career.
The Kansas City Chiefs' 31- 20 victory over the San Fran- cisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV means Reid is no longer the winningest head coach with- out an NFL title. Reid is sixth on the NFL's all-time wins list. He has 207 regular-season wins and now 15 in the post- season.
Marty Schottenheimer, who coached the Chiefs and three other NFL teams, is now the winningest coach without a title. Schottenheimer won 205 regular-season and play- off games.
Reid's credentials to make the Pro Football Hall of Fame seem to now be in order. De- spite his longevity, Reid could have been left out without win- ning a title. Marv Levy, who took the Bills to four straight

Super Bowls in the 1990s, is the only NFL coach in the Super Bowl era who has made the Hall without winning a championship.
Reid spent the first 14 sea- sons of his NFL head-coaching career with the Philadelphia Eagles and the past seven with the Chiefs. His teams reached the playoffs 15 times, with 10 division titles, and reached a conference championship seven times, but Sunday's game was only his second Super Bowl.
Kansas City Sets Chiefs' Super Bowl Victory Parade For Wednesday
Kansas City Chiefs celebrate Super Bowl win.
Kansas City will celebrate the Chiefs' victory in Super Bowl LIV with a parade and rally at 11:30 a.m. CT Wednesday, the Kansas City Sports Commission said in a news release.
"For the first time in 50 years, our Kansas City Chiefs are bringing home the Vince Lombardi trophy, and we're all excited to celebrate with our players and fans," Mayor Quinton Lucas said. "We will cheer on the World Champion Kansas City Chiefs this Wednesday morning dur- ing our victory parade
through downtown Kansas City. Thanks, Kansas City, for being such a great city and having such amazing fans!"
The parade will be fol- lowed by a rally at Union Sta- tion at 1:30 p.m. CT. The commission said further de- tails of the celebration -- in- cluding the parade route -- would be announced Tuesday morning.
Kansas City last hosted such a celebration in 2015, when the Royals won the World Series and an esti- mated 800,000 people turned out to fete the team.
