BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
The Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office is cur- rently accepting applications for the office’s Community Council. The Council will consist of 20 people from Hillsborough County who represent residents and key organizations.
The Council will engage directly with the Office’s sen- ior leaders and obtain in- depth look at how prosecutions are handled and decisions made. Individuals chosen to serve on the Com- munity Council will commit to a (2) two-year commit- ment. They are also expected to share their ideas and con- cerns about how the justice
system impacts their commu- nities and organizations.
Attorney Andrew Warren, of the 13th Judicial Circuit Court said, Trans- parency builds trust. We are in the middle of a nationwide moment with historic oppor- tunities to improve our jus- tice system. The Community Council lets us bring in more voices, so we can understand what’s affecting people in our communities and at the same time, give them a window into the work we’re already doing to create a safer, strong, Hillsborough County.”
Those chosen to serve on the Council will meet with representatives from the State Attorney’s Office every other month for candid dis- cussions, providing feedback from the community on jus- tices issues and learning in- formation from the staff on the policies and programs that shape the manner in which cases are prosecuted.
This is the second Com- munity Council. It began in 2018 and ended in 2020.
Anyone wishing to submit an application for the 2021-2023 term can visit the State Attorney’s website at www.sao13th- .com. The deadline to submit an application is May 13, 2021.
