Freeform’s “grown-ish” (Jan. 3, 2018, 8:00-8:31 p.m. EST) and Showtime’s “The Chi” got off to successful starts in terms of viewership, reports Variety.
“Grown-ish,” the spinoff of “black-ish” that follows eldest daughter Zoe (Yara Shahidi) during her freshman year in college, ranked as Freeform’s biggest series launch in two years among Total Viewers (1.562 million), the network revealed Monday.
In the first 3 days after its launch, “grown-ish” generated 4.5 million views across linear and digital platforms, making the series the best digital debut in Freeform history.
It was also Wednesday’s No. 1 most social cable series with 214,000 engagements across Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and Tumblr.
Meanwhile, Showtime’s drama “The Chi,” which pre- miered 10 p.m. on Sunday, drew a respectable 533,000 viewers, according to Nielsen.

total of 875,000 viewers. The show was also offered for ad- vance sampling, adding an ad- ditional 800,000 viewers for a grand total of 1.67 million view- ers total having seen the pre- miere.
That is the best Showtime se- ries debut when all factors are counted since “Billions,” which drew 3 million viewers in total.
Created and executive pro- duced by Lena Waithe and executive produced by Com- mon, “The Chi” explores the lives of residents on the South Side of Chicago.
Cardi B, 21 Savage, Tyler The Creator and Lil Pump top the list.
On Tuesday (January 9), Forbes dropped its Hip Hop Future Moguls list, which catalogs the next generation of music magnates.
The 2018 edition of the elite 10-member club fea- tures: Cardi B, Lil Pump, Tyler The Creator, 21 Savage, Post Malone, Playboi Carti, Dave East, Vic Mensa along with body- positive rapper-singer Lizzo and producer Wondagurl
help to give the Class of 2018 its highest percentage of fe- male representation.
All the artist are under 30 and could not appear on the Forbes list in the past.
The list was called the Hip Hop Cash Princes in previous years but was renamed in 2018 to promote inclusion.
This year’s list is more di- verse than ever before in terms of the ages, ethnicities and genders of the selec-
tions.
The first step to hip-hop
moguldom is recognition, and Cardi B has more of that than perhaps any other up-and-comer in the genre. With her gargantuan hit “Bodak Yellow,” which clocked more than 400 mil- lion on-demand streams—the fifth highest total for any song this year—she’s now grossing $150,000 or so per city on the road.
