Attorney Charged With Bringing Contraband Into Jail
DOUGLAS BARNARD
A 54-year-old attorney was arrested Wednesday and charged with introducing contraband into a correc- tional facility. The investiga- tion began on December 11, 2019.
According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Dou- glas Barnard, of St. Peters- burg, presented credentials at the Pinellas County Jail and was allowed to practice law in the State of Florida. At the time, he was asked if he had a cell phone and told that cell phones were not permitted in the jail.
Barnard reportedly said he did not have a cell phone and that he had left it in his car. A short time later, a deputy observed Barnard using his cell phone while with the inmate. When con- fronted, he shrugged his shoulder and said he did not agree with the policy. He was escorted from the jail.
After the incident, jail of- ficials learned that Barnard’s status as an at- torney was listed as delin- quent and he was not eligible to practice law.
He returned the next day and attempted to visit with the same principal. However, he was turned away.
On December 20, 2019, Barnard appeared in court on behalf of the inmate, act- ing as his attorney. At that time, he removed himself from the case.
Officials said Barnard was never hired by the inmate or his family to represent the inmate.

A 16-year-old Brooksville teenager has been arrested and charged with attempted murder. The incident took place on January 25th, in the 22000 block of Jacobson Road, in Brooksville.
According to the Her- nando County Sheriff’s Of- fice, deputies responded to a field at the location in refer- ence to an injured person covered in blood.
When the deputies ar- rived, they discovered the adult victim suffered from gunshots. The victim was treated at the scene and flown to a local hospital, where the victim underwent life-saving
procedures.
The victim told police that
he was shot by an acquain- tance, after a drug related dis- pute. The victim went on to beg the teenager not to kill him. The suspect then took the victim’s vehicle and fled the scene.
Police responded to the residence of the juvenile and took him into custody. Dur- ing a search of the home, de- tectives located several firearms and substances be- lieved to be illegal narcotics. They also recovered the vic- tim’s vehicle.
Police did not identify the victim or the suspect.
Teenagers Charged With Armed Robbery
Three teenagers were ar- rested and charged with armed robbery. The suspects had reportedly produced a firearm and pointed it at two victims.
According to the Her- nando County Sheriff’s Of- fice, the three teenagers met a couple in the parking lot of the Hernando County Li- brary. The couple was at- tempting to sell a gun they had listed online.
However, when the couple realized they were all juve- niles, they refused to sell the gun to them. At that point, one of the juveniles produced a gun and pointed it at the victims.
The female victim pro- duced her own firearm and the three fled the scene in the
vehicle that they had arrived
in.
Police located the vehicle
near the intersection of Drys- dale Street and Polk Avenue, in Spring Hill. All three juve- niles were taken into custody. Police also found approxi- mately $3,000 in counterfeit bills, two BB guns, and two masks in the vehicle.
