Committee Makes Final Preparations For Jazz’n Event
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
Members of the Positive Images Committee are making final preparations for Sunday, April 14th. It is going to be a special day because the mem- bers will collectively host their annual, “Jazz’n At The Ital- ian Club,” 1731 E. 7th Avenue.
The event is designed to offer many forms of entertain- ment such as live jazz bands, a silent auction, and even a re- ception for the first time. The reception will begin at 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The event will begin at 5 p.m. and con- clude at 8 p.m.
The evening of entertain- ment that caters to the jazz lover in you came into exis- tence 4 years ago. Tampa busi- nessman, Marvin Knight learned that the St. Peter Claver Catholic School was in need of financial assistance. For more than one hundred years, the school has been pro- viding the educational founda- tion for African American children.

the Positive Images Committee realized that everyday people could help. But, instead of just asking for donations, they came up with the idea of host- ing an evening of entertain- ment.
They were successful in bringing aboard a group of vol- unteers as well as entertainers.
The proceeds from the evening of jazz goes to benefit St. Peter Claver Catholic School. And, for those who at- tend get something in return.
They get to spend the

evening in a safe environment with others who enjoy jazz music, as well as a silent auc- tion, and other forms of enter- tainment.
This year, Ms. Debora Barr is the Chairperson of the Silent Auction Committee. She is being assisted by Ms. Cas- sandra Watson.
“Once again, we will have some fun and interesting items up for silent bid. This year marks our 4th year sponsoring this event and our 2nd year partnering with Zach Abel, of

Socially Funded.
“Expect to see authenti-
cated, original signed pictures of Denzel Washington, the late and great Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, and other world famous entertainers. We will have a Buccaneer suite package, USF home game tick- ets, sailing trip expedition, golf package, beautiful, exquisite jewelry, and more,” Ms. Barr said.
Knight said, “We want everyone to come out and enjoy the music, relax, while
helping us to help children of the community. What better way can you have a good time and give back at the same time? Our goal is to raise $25,000 this year.
“By helping to make this event a success, you are help- ing these students go on to high school, get their educa- tion, and become productive adult citizens.
“The volunteers are dedi- cated to making this a success and we appreciate what they are doing. We are also working with youth to teach them how to give back to their commu- nity because they are our fu- ture leaders and we want to teach them how to take over these roles.”
Ms. Lexi Lewis will serve as the guest Mistress of Cere- monies. Entertainers include Hott Mess, who is returning this year, along with City Groove, and Ashley Smith and The Random Occur- rence.
