Military
Ms. Roesolia Mosley Young is, affectionately, called Rose. She relocated from Leesburg, Florida where she attended Lake County Training School and had the reputation of a stel- lar basketball player. After graduation, she moved to Tampa in the Hyde Park area, where she pursued a ca- reer as a beautician.
Later, she entered Gibbs Junior College and earned an LPN in nursing in 1964. She was one of the first Black nurses hired at Tampa Gen- eral Hospital, where she worked for ten years and later retired from James A. Haley Veterans Hospital.
Ms. Rose relocated from Hyde Park and became one of the first homeowners in Progress Village with her husband and two children. From that date to this, Mrs. Young has been a pioneer in the Progress Village Commu- nity. She served as president of the Progress Village Civic Council for three terms and became very active in civic affairs.
Mrs. Young also was politically active by attending the inaugurations of Gover- nor Lawton Chiles and President Bill Clinton.
Faithful to GOD in many ways, Ms. Rose has served her congregation at First Baptist Church of Progress Village for over 55 years. She has served in several capaci- ties, such as president of the choir, member of Senior Women’s Mission, VP of the High Noon Prayer Band and a member of the Prayer War- riors.
She was the beneficiary of her daughter, Harriett Mosley, an international first-class airline stewardess, and has traveled to London, Rome, Paris, Hawaii, Egypt, and Germany. Ms. Rose also traveled extensively her- self. Her son, Herbert Mosley, is a 30-year retired veteran of the United States Navy.
With GOD all things are possible. As a nonagenarian, Ms. Rose still drives, plays on her computer, assists neighbors, family and friends with home health care. She attends the Senior Program at Progress Village Recre- ational Center two days a week and enjoys eating at her favorite restaurants.
For her 90th birthday on today — October 30th — she will continue this tradition and gather with friends and family at the Columbia Restaurant in Ybor City.
Happy birthday, 90 years ‘Young’ to Ms. Rose!

For example, she worked with Fred Hearns and other members of the 78th Street Alliance to get a neigh- borhood health clinic in Clair Mel area. The Alliance was also instrumental in cam- paigning to restrict Wal- greens from building a liquor store next to Clair Mel Ele- mentary School.
WASHINGTON — Amer- ica’s Navy is coming to Tampa, Florida, one of 19 cities in four states to host a performance by the United States Navy Band during its 2018 tour — one of the signa- ture outreach programs of the U. S. Navy.
The U. S. Navy Band Commodores jazz ensemble performance is scheduled for Nov. 6, 2018, at 7:30 p.m. at Straz Center for Performing Arts.
Jazz is America’s music and the Commodores, the Navy’s premier jazz ensem- ble, have been performing the very best of big band jazz for the Navy and the nation for almost 50 years. They have appeared on TV shows, played nearly all major jazz festivals and toured across the United States and abroad. This vibrant, dynamic group
is constantly striving for mu- sical excellence and the pur- suit of new and exciting ways to communicate with their audiences.
One of the U. S. Navy Band’s primary responsibili- ties involves touring the country. All of the band’s pri- mary performing ensembles embark each year on concert tours throughout specified regions of the country, allow- ing the band to reach audi- ences in areas of the country that do not have opportuni- ties to see the Navy’s premier musical ensembles on a regu- lar basis.
The concerts are family- friendly events, entertaining to veterans, families, individ- uals and those interested in joining the Navy.
All Navy Band perform- ances are free and open to the public.
