Babysitter Arrested For Setting Off Acid Bombs
Teenager Critical After Being Shot During Gathering
St. Petersburg Police report that on Tuesday, June 14th at 1:18 a.m., patrol units and de- tectives responded to a shoot- ing at 4634 20th Avenue, South.
Officers reported that several dozen people had gathered at that location for a welcome party for a man who had just been released from prison.
After interviewing witnesses, officers were told that two men, with their faces covered, ap- proached the gathering on foot and opened fire. A bullet struck

16-year-old Javarious Rashard Martin in the head.
By the time officers reached the scene, Martin was being transported to the hospital in a private vehicle. Officers stopped that vehicle and St. Pe- tersburg Fire-rescue para- medics started treating him before transporting him to a local hospital.
Martin is listed in very crit- ical condition, and officers said an adjacent home was also struck by gunfire.
At this time, police have not identified any known suspects.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office reports that on June 13th at 11:15 a.m., a deputy working off-duty in the Logan Gate Subdivision near Mon- terey Lakeside Park, 6602 Mon- terey Boulevard, heard a loud explosion.
The deputy responded to the park and saw Joshua Stephen Lapin-Bertone, 30, setting off chemical bombs at the park. He reportedly had a 10-year-old boy with him.
Deputies said Bertone was showing the boy how to set off the chemical bombs and had the boy participate in throwing them. A search of Bertone’s vehicle produced more chemi- cals used to make acid bombs. A Bomb Team member re- sponded, neutralized, and se- cured the chemicals.
The child’s mother responded

on the scene and took custody of the child.
Deputies said Bertone works as a babysitter through Care.com, and has been babysitting the child for 4 years.
Bertone has been charged with making/placing/discharg- ing a destructive device and child abuse endangerment. He is being held at the Orient Road Jail.
Abandoned Baby In Stroller Leads To Mother’s Body
St. Petersburg Police re- ported that a young, homeless mother was found dead Tues- day morning after she report- edly tried getting inside a home.
At 8:30 a.m., officers were called to 2141 15th Avenue, South about a baby left aban- doned in a stroller.
When officers arrived, they found 23-year-old Niesha Nicole Annie Henderson trapped in a side back window.
Officers said Henderson was trying to get into the home, where she and her 9-month-old son had slept many times be- fore.
Police said Henderson suf- fered from asthma and in all likelihood, that caused her

death.
Investigators said Hender-
son had apparently left her son in the stroller and used a plas- tic lawn chair and a milk crate to attempt to get into the win- dow. The window was five feet above the ground.
Police said the makeshift lad- der fell over as Henderson got her head and arms through the window and she subsequently became wedged on the window sill. It is unclear how long Hen- derson may have been stuck in the window before she died.
