Rays Of Hope Community Outreach Mentoring Program
Young Dentist Focuses On Offering
The summer is approach- ing, kids will be out of school, and parents will be scrambling to find an activity to keep them busy.
For Rays of Hope Commu- nity Outreach Mentoring Pro- gram, this is its favorite time of year.
Rays of Hope founder, Ho- race Drew, said he’s happy to have completed his 4th year helping area youth, and on Monday June 13th at 7 p.m., their mentoring program will kickoff.
For ages 8-to-19, the men- toring program will be offered at New Smyrna Full Gospel
HORACE DREW
Cathedral, 5015 North 17th Street.
Drew said they will be fea- turing special events on Mon- day and Thursday nights, and this year he expects in excess of 65 kids.
“We started out with just 15 kids. Now, I expect to see the numbers continue to grow each year.”
The mentoring program will teach the kids obedience, the importance of an educa- tion, and character building. On Saturdays, all the partici- pants will be treated to field trip.
On the first day, Dr. Lewis Brinson will be the featured speaker.
“We will have different speakers and mentors as the program moves along, and we’re asking parents to please bring their kids out for this free offer,” said Drew.

‘A Personal Touch’
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
Most people have a phobia about visiting the dentist’s of- fice. And, as a result may neg- lect their dental needs.
But one Tampa dentist is about to shatter the images of fear that comes into focus with the mere mention of the word, “dentist.” Dr. Omari Sheehy said, “It’s the little things that make all of the difference. I want to provide the personal touch.
On Monday, June 13th, the doors of Bayshore Dental Cen- ter, 810 W. Dr. M. L. King, Jr., Blvd., in Seffner opened. And already, Dr. Sheehy said he had to “hit the ground run- ning.” The Grand Opening Cel- ebration will continue on Saturday, June 18th.
“My vision is to provide outstanding and affordable service to every member of the family. It is important to me that people know that they are going to be able to trust us to provide the right care at an af- fordable cost. We want them to know that we care about their dental health and their overall

health as well,” Dr. Sheehy said.
He further said that he pro- vides dental care to the entire family. His goal is to offer a full range of services and to provide as many services as possible in his office.
A native of Atlanta, Geor- gia, Dr. Sheehy graduated from Hampton University as a Pre-Medicine major. He then graduated from Meharry School of Medicine.
His initial career choice was to become a physician. But, a friend who told him about the field of dentistry and then, he went on a fact finding mission. The result of that mission was, “I discovered that I really loved it. I love talking to people and really getting to know them. As a dentist, you see your patients more often.”
And that was not the only thing that changed his career path. His grandmother became ill and his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Ronald (Franca) Sheehy, moved to Tampa.
His father learned about a possible job and Dr. Sheehy applied for it. But as fate would have it, he didn’t get the posi- tion.
Dr. Sheehy worked at other dental offices to gain ex- perience and now the 31-year- old member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., has his own practice.
